The coaxial micro heat exchanger consists of concentric tubes in which a fluid streams in a counter current configuration. In order to transfer heat to and from this fluid, a heat transfer medium streams in separated channels along the concentric tubes in the core as well as in the outer region of the module. The module can be completely disassembled so that cleaning is easily possible if plugging of the concentric fluid channels should occur. In addition, the characteristic dimensions of the fluid duct are larger than in standard platetype micro heat exchangers and the device has been successfully used for particle loaded or highly viscous fluids. As a matter of fact, the heat transfer rate per unit volume is smaller than that of plate-type micro heat exchangers. Nevertheless, a heat transfer rate of typically more than 100 W is achievable which is sufficient for many applications of the microreaction development platform. Because of their comparatively small pressure losses, coaxial heat exchanger modules can be operated in series. A typical boiler system Boilers are unintelligent and often fire up unnecessarily, when there is still sufficient heat within the system. When this happens the boiler is re-heating water that is sufficiently hot and the excess heat is wasted up the boiler flue; this is called dry cycling. In a typical system, the boiler is designed to work most efficiently with an 11°C difference between the flow and return water temperatures (e.g. out at 66°C and back at 55°C). The boiler setting is fixed and usually set to cater for the coldest external temperatures. A system controlled by The Boiler Manager Anti-cycling technology is well established in the large commercial boiler market place, but the Boiler Manager is one of the first systems to successfully apply this technology at a price that makes it viable for domestic or small commercial boilers. In contrast with a typical boiler system, the Boiler Manager is a much more efficient energy saving system. The Boiler Manager is wired between the time clock and the room thermostat, with sensors on both flow and return pipes, and takes over the management of the boiler to run it more efficiently. It has high performance microprocessor control and its own exclusive software, which was written specifically to overcome the shortcomings of existing boiler control unit technology as identified in numerous Building Research Establishment (BRE) reports. The Boiler Manager is not controlled by time, but by temperature, and so is able to prevent dry cycling without loss of comfort. The Boiler Manager monitors flow and return and varies the threshold settings and firing cycle in order to achieve genuine energy saving. The return temperature is used to determine when to reduce the boiler setting and when to extend the firing cycle, without affecting comfort levels. The Boiler Manager will not allow the boiler to fire up until the return temperature has dropped fully to the required temperature. It is a basic principle of Thermodynamics, that if the return temperature is reduced, then the boiler heat exchanger will operate more efficiently, therefore being a more efficient energy saver. The charts below monitor the running of a typical domestic boiler with and without the boiler manager controlling the system. Two conclusions are immediately evident: - The boiler fires 17 times in a minute period without the boiler manager and 7 times with the boiler manager. - The Boiler Manager ensures that the boiler is operating precisely to the set demand temperature of 66 degrees Celsius, without loss of comfort; this is very different to the situation without the Boiler Manager, where the system temperature is at 78 degrees Celsius, resulting in dry cycling and wasted heat. >>>

OPERATION The integral side-channel blower generates high pressure air-flow through the desiccant cartridge, through the process heater and into the drying hopper. The air diffuses through the material and exhausts via the top of the drying hopper, through a large-area cartridge filter and back into the blower. After a preset timed period, the blower reverses and regenerates the desiccant bed. The direction of air-flow is controlled by non- return valves and does not require the use of a spool valve. The controls provide digital setting and display of process temperature and include an overtemperature alarm. Also included are indicator lights showing system status and an alarm for blocked filter.
