HEMCORE HEMP INSULATION

HEMCORE HEMP INSULATION

What is Hemp Insulation? Hemp insulation is a technically superior, healthy and sustainable insulation product made from premium grade Hemcore fibres. Hemp insulation is very easy-to-use in roofs (between joists and rafters), within the walls of timber frame houses, and internally in walls and floors where the exceptional acoustic properties of Hemp insulation are an important additional feature. The tough and resilient hemp fibres ensure that Hemp insulation is extremely durable and will perform effectively for the life of the building. Why Use Hemp Insulation? Efficient Hemp fibre creates a naturally efficient thermal and acoustic insulation product for walls, floors and roofs. Hemp insulation is an energy saving product that helps to keep your house cosy and warm in winter and cool in summer. Breathable Importantly, Hemp insulation is able to absorb and release moisture helping to regulate internal moisture levels, which enhances human comfort and reduces the risk of condensation. This breathability is increasingly recognised by construction professionals as being an extremely useful function for maintaining a healthy and durable building. Healthy and Sustainable Hemp insulation is an environmentally sustainable and responsible alternative to conventional insulation, offering comparable or better thermal and acoustic performance with all the environmental benefits of a natural product. Hemp insulation locks-up carbon, it can be disposed off easily at the end of its life, and is non-toxic, non-irritant and healthy for you and your home. Thermal Performance Hemp insulation has a thermal conductivity of 0.039 W/mºK. This performance is similar to or better than other fibre based insulation products. Additionally the heat capacity of hemp insulation is more than double that of equivalent mineral fibre products – helping to enhance thermal comfort by reducing overheating in summer and by damping internal temperature fluctuations. The ability of hemp insulation to resist settlement, means that the installed thickness, and consequently thermal performance is maintained. Acoustic Performance The high density of Hemp insulation (>35kg/m3) combined with the sound damping properties of natural fibres results in superb acoustic performance. Tests on standard wall build-ups demonstrates that Hemp insulation helps builders surpass the sound performance requirements detailed in Approved Document E of the Building Regulations Resistance to Fire The fibres used for the production of Hemp insulation are treated with a simple non-reacting compound to achieve at least a Euroclass E fire performance rating. Consequently hemp insulation complies with the fire performance requirements of the Building Regulations and is ‘fire safe’. Durability Hemp is a naturally durable fibre. As hemp is based on cellulose, Hemp insulation does not attract rodents and nor does it provide a food source for moths or other insects. How and Where to use Hemp Insulation Where to use Hemp Insulation Hemp insulation is ideal for use as thermal and acoustic insulation for new build as well as for renovation and for topping up the loft. It should be used in roofs, floors and walls. The semi-rigid characteristic of Hemp insulation makes it particularly quick and easy to install within walls of timber frame constructions. How to use Hemp Insulation Hemp insulation is easy to work with. No special tools are required. Simply cut with a sharp work knife or bread knife. Always cut on a flat surface and use a straight edge as a guide. Hemp insulation cuts easiest when compressed. Ensure that your insulation is firmly fitted between the joists or rafters with no gaps. Additional layers of insulation can be placed over the joists. Fit any cut edges together tightly and fill any odd-shaped spaces with off-cuts. Make sure that there are no gaps. Health and Safety The natural hemp fibres are completely harmless, so Hemp insulation is not irritating to the skin eyes or respiratory system. Hemp insulation is totally safe and healthy to install in your home. >>>

PITCHED ROOF INSULATION BETWEEN RAFTERS

PITCHED ROOF INSULATION BETWEEN RAFTERS

Insulating a pitched roof between the rafters creates a warm roof space in a new or existing building where the ceiling is to be attached directly to the underside of the rafters. This warm roof space can be used as additional living or storage space, adding extra value to the property. To avoid condensation occurring a 50mm ventilated air space between the insulation and traditional sarking felt is required by the Building Regulations/Standards for 'cold roof' construction. For this application we would recommend the use of Seconds Sarking Board. >>>

INSULATION STONE WOOL

INSULATION STONE WOOL

Knauf Insulation stone wool (also known as rock mineral wool) is branded as Heralan®, KnaufRock®, Nobasil®, Rocksilk®, Tervol® and finds its way into thousands of residential and commercial buildings as well as into industrial and OEM applications. This material is also having an excellent combination of thermal, acoustic and fire insulation properties. Knauf Insulation stone wool products protect you from heat, noise and fire, providing you with: Thermal insulation: energy efficiency in buildings is a key point to choose your insulation material. The heat conductivity is measured by the?? factor where a lower value means a better thermal insulation. Stone wool is reducing the heat loss, which has a positive impact on energy efficiency and thermal insulation. Therefore it is important to apply materials in a way to avoid the condensation of water vapour in the construction, because it deteriorates the quality of insulation. Acoustic insulation: sound is the result of the vibration of particles in an elastic environment. To ensure a quiet and relaxing atmosphere, Knauf Insulation stone wool is protecting you from air and impact sounds. The higher the acoustic absorption, the better the acoustic insulation. The acoustic elasticity properties of Knauf Insulation stone wool ensure a top-level acoustic performance. Fire protection insulation: Knauf Insulation stone wool is non combustible, which makes it perfect for fire protection. The thermal insulation properties of the insulation material being used in case of fire are also very important as the material will be subject to elevated temperatures. That's why it is important to choose a fire resistant insulation material. Our Knauf Insulation stone wool insulation materials are the optimal choice of incombustibility class A1, with a high melting point above 1000°C. Other properties of stone wool insulation: vapour permeable ( breaths ) resistant to aging and decay ( long living ) resistant to micro organisms and insects resistant to chemical substances chemically inert and completely recyclable with an ecological production process TYPICAL APPLICATIONS Flat roofs Membranes Suspended ceilings Insulation with an extra high fire classification in addition to wood wool (application underground parking). PITCHED ROOF INSULATION BETWEEN AND BENEATH RAFTERS

PITCHED ROOF INSULATION BETWEEN AND BENEATH RAFTERS

The method of insulating a pitched roof is particularly suited to loft conversions and refurbishment where the rafter depth is insufficient to accommodate the thickness of insulation required whilst providing a 50mm ventilation void (a requirement of the Building Regulations/ Standards for 'cold roofs').This option is preferable to insulating only between the rafters (provided there is sufficient head room to accommodate the insulation) as it limits the cold bridge effect through the rafters. For this application we would recommend the use of Seconds between the rafters and Seconds beneath the rafters. >>>

PITCHED ROOF INSULATION OVER RAFTER SARKING

PITCHED ROOF INSULATION OVER RAFTER SARKING

A warm pitched roof is created by placing insulation directly over the rafters. Continuous ventilation of the roof void is not required with this method of construction and the risk of condensation within the roof structure is eliminated. In new buildings, extra value can be added to the property by creating an additional bedroom, study or dry warm storage area. This method of insulating is also ideal for existing buildings where the tiles/slates need replacing. For this we would recommend the use of Seconds Sarking Board. >>>
