GREASE TRAPS

GREASE TRAPS

Discharge of grease into sewers causes pipe blockages and hinders the performance of sewage treatment plants. Grease traps are required wherever fats and greases are discharged to the drainage system. The BMS Grease Trap range has been designed to suit the needs of catering facilities large and small, and the food and meat processing industries. All BMS Grease Traps are manufactured from Corrosion Proof Glass Reinforced Polyester (GRP) material, ensuring extended operation compared to other materials. The design of the Grease Traps and the materials used in the grease traps are compliant with the current guidelines I.S EN 1825-1:2001-Grease separators -Part 1: Principles of Design, Performance and Testing, Marking and Quality control and I.S EN1825-2: Part 2: Selection of Nominal Size, Installation,Operation and Maintenance. At the grease trap inlet a solids tray collects food particles carried in the wastewater. The water is cooled inside the trap allowing the fats and grease to separate out and rise to the surface. >>>

CONTAINERISED POTABLE WATER MAKERS

CONTAINERISED POTABLE WATER MAKERS

Process Description Inlet water is collected in an initial basin and added with free chlorine through sodium hypochlorite in order to break down bacteria counts. The sand filters downstream assure a high residence time and enable the sedimentation of the suspended solids. An activated carbon filter unit allows the removal of free chlorine which is noxious to the Reverse Osmosis Membranes. The activated carbon is also effective in the adsorption of organic molecules. A storage tank is partially filled with treated water in order to make a reservoir necessary for backwashing of sand and activated carbon filters. The water so treated complies with the WHO's guidelines for the total suspended solids and count of Legionella, Protozon parasites and Vibrio cholerae. If available inlet water is not in compliance with the guidelines from the total salinity concentration, a reverse-osmosis desalination system is foreseen. Upstream the R.O. unit, a cartridge filter (filtration rate: 5 micron) allows removal of suspended solids and prevents the elements from fouling. Dosing of anti-scaling agent prevents from scaling due to carbonates and sulphates precipitation. The high pressure pump is operated by a speed controller (inverter type) so that a soft start is achieved, strongly reducing the water hammer effect on the membranes. The R.O. unit includes a membrane washing system that keeps the membranes clean from scaling and biofouling. The washing system includes a storage tank and a centrifugal pump that allows the circulation of the cleaning solutions along and through the membranes. A final disinfection by UV is foreseen to assure production of water free from bacteria contamination. >>>

GRAVER ROTA-RAKE®

GRAVER ROTA-RAKE®

Efficient separation of suspended solids from liquid through the use of gravity The Graver Rota-Rake® is a horizontal flow sedimentation and thickening unit for the efficient separation of suspended solids and is designed to provide maximum separation, positive sludge removal and full overload protection. In the Rota-Rake the water enters a central inlet well where its velocity is reduced. The large laminar flow achieved by the large increase in flow area allows the heavy solids to coalesce and further thicken to settable size. As the water flows evenly and gently from the bottom of the inlet well and makes its way radially across the unit, the lighter solids settle to the bottom where the sludge scraper rolls them toward the center of the unit, further thickenening the sludge in the process. The effluent water is collected through weirs and the heavy-duty sludge scraper moves the solids with a minimum of agitation to the discharge sump. The arms for the sludge scraper are equipped with angled blades that sweep the entire bottom of the vessel and are driven from a central shaft that is attached to a low rpm speed reducer motor assembly. The arms are also equipped with thickening pickets that extend down into the discharge sump that provide further thickening of the settled floc. This two stage thickening of the sludge permits a relatively high density sludge to be removed from the thickener thereby resulting in a savings in blowdown waste. >>>

INTERCEPTORS

INTERCEPTORS

An interceptor is a container made from plastic, fibre glass, steel. It prevents oil collected from a site being discharged into a storm drain, waterway, stream or fowl sewer. When the area to be drained is assessed it is rated whether it is high, medium or low risk, thus determining the type of interceptor used. In high and medium risk areas, e.g. petrol forecourts, full retention interceptors are used. >>>

MEMSPINPLUS MICRO FILTRATION

MEMSPINPLUS MICRO FILTRATION

MF is a low pressure (10-100 psig) process for separating larger size solutes from aqueous solutions by means of a semi-permeable membrane. This process is carried out by having a process solution flow along a membrane surface under pressure. Retained solutes (such as particulate matter) leave with the flowing process stream and do not accumulate on the membrane surface. · Retains large suspended solids · Passes some suspended solids and all dissolved material · Pore ranges from 0.1 micron to 3 micron The GrahamTek MemspinPlus micro filtration products are designed for cross-flow separation, where a feed stream is introduced into the membrane element under pressure and passed over the membrane surface in a controlled flow path. A portion of the feed passes through the membrane and is called permeate. The rejected materials are flushed away in a stream called the concentrate. Cross-flow membrane filtration uses a high cross flow rates to enhance permeate passage and reduce membrane fouling. The GrahamTek MemspinPlus Micro Filtration unit is the result of exhaustive testing and designing to end up with a solution for the removal of suspended solids in the feed water of our Desalination systems. It is a perfect solution as stand alone plant for the treatment of turbid water and the removal of all molecules in the >>>

WATER SEPARATOR

WATER SEPARATOR

Water Separators High quality compressed air is essential to pneumatic and automatic systems as correct air preparation minimises component failure, increases the operating life of equipment and reduces energy consumption. Water vapour occurs naturally in air and is present in the hot air discharged from air compressors. The hot air will then release condensate as it meets the colder surfaces of downstream equipment. Although the condensate can be removed via drains, liquid will remain in the air stream. This liquid condensate will break down lubricating oils, increasing friction between moving surfaces and corrode exposed metal components. For compressed air installations where water contamination is a real problem, Walker Filtration's range of silicone free water separators can deal simply and effectively with the problem. Typically, water separators are installed downstream of after coolers and air receivers, refrigerant dryers and at strategic points in pipe work installations. The design utilises an internal spinner which removes large quantities of condensate by centrifugal action. Water separators are available for operating pressures up to 16 barg (232 psig). >>>

SEA WATER DESALINATION

SEA WATER DESALINATION

The access to water sources is an important issue where there is poor availability of well and surface water. This is particularly true in desert areas or wherever the possibility of desalinating sea water could be an advantage because of the difficulties of drilling deep wells or due to the extremely poor quality of the surface water. The technologies employed by BONO Artes in the desalination of sea water are based on membrane processes. In particular the “heart” of the process scheme is a Reverse Osmosis unit where saline water is pumped in cross flow on the elements with enough pressure to overcome the high osmotic pressure and enable a satisfactory recovery factor. Energy saving solutions are implemented with high-rejection energy saving permeators and with the use of “energy recovery” device enabling the energy of the high pressure concentrate to be transferred to the incoming feed water thus reducing the required power per unit of desalinated water. Key issues in the treatment of sea water are the filtration and debacterisation of the incoming water. Filtration could be performed again with membrane technologies (ultrafiltration, microfiltration) or with pressure-type media filters. The choice of the type of filtration is deeply influenced by the type of sea water intake since large solid particles should be prevented from entering the desalination plant from the rough filtration unit in the intake. Since sea water is a “living environment” with presence of micro-organisms and algae, debacterisation is critical to avoid any growth of bacteria on the Reverse Osmosis elements. Another important factor in the design of a sea water desalination plant is the correct choice of the construction materials because of the corrosiveness due to the high content of Chlorides. >>>
