BAR POST-TENSIONING

BAR POST-TENSIONING

SSL Bar Systems are ideal for the economic application of post-tensioning forces on relatively short tendons. Through the use of threaded connections and anchorages they are simple to use and lend themsleves to many applications. The robust coarse thread (CT) provided to the SSL Stressbar ensures rapid and reliable assembly, particularly suitable for onsite use and reuse. Typical Applications are: Buildings, Bridges, Wharves & Jetties, Soil and/or Rock Anchors and Specialist Engineering. Corrosion Protection All bars and fittings must receive protection when installed under permanent conditions. In normal concrete construction the use of galvanised duct injected with grout provides excellent protection. Anchorage recesses must also be filled with cement mortar to protect these ends. When bars are used in an exposed environment then other coating systems are available for the bar and fittings. Temporary Bar Anchors Anchors used in a temporary environment may be used without protection apart from grout required to the bond length. Permanent Bar Anchors These anchors require installation into corrugated polyethylene sheathing similar to strand anchors to provide multiple levels of protection. This is accomplished by the internal grout and sheathing barrier. Additional protection may also be used by incorporating the above bar coating systems. GROUNDSCREW

GROUNDSCREW

The GroundScrew provides foundations for the following structures: Housing Developments Wind Turbines Telecommunications Masts Pipeline Anchor Systems Temporary Buildings Foundation Reinforcement for Additional Storeys Geo-Thermal Projects Footbridges and Walkways Gantries Signs, Signals and Hoardings Street Furniture Earth Retaining Walls and Embankments Areas with high water content Areas where trees or tree roots pose a problem and anywhere else where traditional sand and cement is used! Features The GroundScrew is a hot finish seamless round hollow section with one or more helices welded to it. It is constructed of ASTM A Gr 106-B/C grade carbon steel which is of excellent quality. It can be galvanised if conditions necessitate this. Each GroundScrew is individually engineered, customised and manufactured to our Clients' requirements for each project. The GroundScrew can be installed to depths to avoid desiccation and heave. The GroundScrew is available in stem diameters from 60mm to 1M with one more more helices. A variety of combinations of diameters and helices ensure that each GroundScrew will perform to requirements for either small or large projects. The GroundScrew is a tried and tested system; it has been used very successfully in North America and beyond for nearly two decades in all types of substrates and conditions from frozen to swampy land. Uses New Build The GroundScrew can be used in new build situations; a ring beam can be constructed on top to provide a well founded base for single and multi storey structures. The GroundScrew can be inserted well beyond the depth achievable with traditional foundations. The GroundScrew is extremely quick to install, especially compared with traditional methods, thereby saving in time and costs. No time is wasted for waiting for concrete to cure. The GroundScrew is excellent for brown field sites. The GroundScrew is excellent where tree roots are a problem. The GroundScrew is excellent where water is a problem. Why have a ground floor on flood plains? Remedial The GroundScrew can be used in remedial situations even to the point where a building can be jacked up using our specially designed capping detail. The GroundScrew can even be installed in areas where height restriction is a factor. There is minimum disturbance to the soil and the structure. There is also minimum disturbance to the inhabitants of the structure. Tie-Backs The GroundScrew can be used in compression as a normal load bearing pile or in tension as a soil nail or tie-back to support, for example, earth retaining walls or embankments. Insertion The GroundScrew requires no grouting or other process. The GroundScrew can be easily battered into position if necessary, making it ideal for tie-backs. The GroundScrew is screwed, with maximum energy efficiency, into the ground using a torque motor as opposed to being vibrated into position. Gauges monitor the torque and provide a guide to the load capacity being borne by the GroundScrew. Minimum disturbance to the surrounding substrate, structures or neighbours. The GroundScrew is extremely easy to install using conventional machinery. Lightweight machinery is required for difficult to access sites. The GroundScrew can be screwed accurately into position ensuring perfect placement. Sections of the GroundScrew are conected with either high tensile bolts, for the smaller diameter GroundScrews, or welded for the larger diameter GroundScrews. Various capping details are available for both new build and remedial applications. Environmental The GroundScrew is very environmentally friendly. There is very little or no spoil removal and hence no landfill. Transport and fuel implications associated with spoil removal are also reduced. The quantities of sand, cement and water required in traditional foundations are not required. The GroundScrew can be removed and reused which makes it ideal for temporary buildings. >>>

CONCRETE REPAIR

CONCRETE REPAIR

Concrete deterioration causes serious problems for many buildings ranging from the smallest residential complex to the largest commercial and industrial buildings. Gases from the atmosphere slowly penetrate into concrete over time, triggering reinforcement corrosion and spalling of the outer concrete layers. If left untreated, expensive problems will usually result. Structural Systems has the expertise to not only accurately diagnose such problems but to repair the concrete with skill and expediency. A poorly executed repair can often reduce its lifespan, significantly increasing the building's long-term maintenance costs. Typical Concrete Repair works undertaken by SSL include : Spalling concrete or concrete cancer Corroded reinforcement rectification Cathodic Protection systems Chloride removal and Realkalisation >>>

HELITIE NAILS

HELITIE NAILS

HeliTie Nails are manufactured from Grade 304 Cu corrosion resistant stainless steel and are helical along the whole of their length with a point at one end. They are available in diameters of 6mm and 8mm and in lengths between 70mm and 100mm. Grade 316 is also available. They are supplied in boxes of 100. HeliTie Nails have a variety of uses. Use them as in applications where a fix is likely to be difficult. Features and Benefits The main feature of the HeliTie Nail is that it provides an excellent fix into soft (autoclaved) block. They are therefore ideal for nailing skirting, battens and frames etc into soft block. HeliTies do not have heads and so do not split the timber. Due to their shape, HeliTie Nails fix along the whole length of the tie. HeliTies are fast and easy to install. HeliTies are extremely versatile. >>>

MULTI-STRAND POST-TENSIONING

MULTI-STRAND POST-TENSIONING

The multi-strand post-tensioning system is predominantly used in civil structures including bridges, silos, tanks and off-shore structures, it is a robust and reliable bonded prestressing system. The SSL multi-strand system consists of up to 61 No. 12.7mm/12.9mm or 91 No. 15.2mm/15.7mm strands to form tendons which are installed inside round ducting. The individual strands are anchored in a commmon anchor head with a wedge grip system and the strands are simultaneously stressed. Individual strand stressing is possible in some circumstances. After stressing, the ducting is pressure filled with a cementitious grout. The choice between the anchorage types depends on structural requirements, availability and dimensional constraints. MULTI-WIRE POST-TENSIONING

MULTI-WIRE POST-TENSIONING

The SSL Multi-Wire System is more compact than the multi-strand system and is often preferred for coupled cables, incrementally launched bridges, and is ideally suited where cables are to be prefabricated as well as where restressing or destressing is required. The multi-wire tendon is composed of a bundle of 7mm dia. wires. Each individual wire is fixed in the anchorage with a mulit-wire button head, which is cold-upset onto the wire by means of special machines. The optimum multi-wire upsetting technique with regard to size of button head, bearing conditions, accuracy of dimensions and balanced deformation process results in a high quality anchorage. Each wire is mechanically fixed in the anchor head and reaches the full rupture load of the prestressing steel without any slippage. Therefore the wire bundle can sustain the maximum ultimate load. The prestressing force is transmitted to the concrete under precisely known conditions, without any risk of slippage of the prestressing steel. Surveillance of the prestressing force and if necessary restressing can be carried out reliably and economically. If required, the tendon can also be completely destressed. The anchorage resists with a high degree of safety dynamic loads and also exceptional effects such as shock loads.
