    Portec Rail Standard Rail Joints Headfree Toeless Joint Unique cross-section design of our headfree toeless joints assures maximum stiffness and strength, surpassing the AREA Committee Bar design. The design provides excellent fit and compensation for wear, resulting in a stronger, longer lasting joint assembly. Compromise Joints To permit the interconnection of different rail sections, Portec Rail Products, Inc.offers forged and cast compromise joints in a wide range of sizes. These joints are designed with extra reinforcement in the critical center area and are stringently quality controlled to assure the ultimate performance of this type of joint. High-Relief Standard Joint Improved rail metallurgy in conjunction with advanced lubrication techniques and maintenance policy has resulted in significant rail gauge face wear reduction. This has positively impacted rail life by extending railhead wear through the delay of premature gauge face wear. Rail grinding programs have also extended railhead life allowing the railhead to more likely reach condemning limits. These improvements that are allowing rail to be more efficiently consumed in addition to changes in the condemning limits is impacting the performance, safety and life of standard joint bars currently in the field. A similar condition with wheels (increased wheel flange life allowing increasing wheel tread life) is also a factor. This additional railhead and wheel tread wear is moving the wheel flanges into contact with joint bars. This contact dramatically increases the likelihood of a rail joint failure at these bolted joints. The Portec Rail High Relief Standard Joint Bar provides a minimum of 2-3/8" of wheel flange clearance on 136 RE rail for minimum 7/8" rail head wear, providing 7/16" additional rail head wear before 1/2" worn hollow tread wheels begin contacting the joint bar. For 115RE rail the High Relief design provides a minimum of 2-1/16" of wheel flange clearance for minimum 9/16" rail head wear, providing 5/16" additional rail head wear before 1/2" worn hollow tread wheels begin contacting the joint bar. The High Relief Joint Bar design also has increased strength and exceeds AREMA specifications for minimum yield point and tensile strength while maintaining the AREMA minimum elongation and reduction in area requirements. The potential fatigue life is increased due to better mechanical properties and there is reduced likelihood of bar breakage at bolt holes. The new patented joint bar design can be used on the gauge side only with existing joint bars on the field side of the rail, maximizing asset life. >>>

    TRAXX DC ELECTRIC LOCOMOTIVES

    As a platform-based product, the TRAXX DC locomotive has a high degree of commonality with the multi-system TRAXX MS, the TRAXX AC and the TRAXX DE locomotives. This platform offers the highest levels of operational reliability and maintainability thanks to highly proven and standardized modular subsystems. TRAXX DC locomotives have been ordered for Italy and Spain. While these locomotives were developed specifically for freight services with a 3kV DC supply voltage, they also have all the components required for passenger services (train busbar, UIC equipment, etc.). Renfe Operadora (Spain) awarded Bombardier with an order for 100 TRAXX F140 DC locomotives. They are equipped with the Spanish ASFA signalling system and, for the first time, with TRAXX broad gauge bogies. For its part, Trenitalia Cargo ordered 42 units of the TRAXX F160 DC from Bombardier Transportation. The locomotive has been homologated for freight transportation at a maximum speed of 160 km/h, and can be deployed for passenger operations at a maximum speed of 200 km/h. The leasing company Angel Trains also placed an order for the TRAXX F140 DC. This locomotive is equipped with the Italian SCMT systems and fulfills all operational requirements in Italy. >>>
