RADIO EVACUATION DEVICES

The Radio Evacuation Distress System (REDS) provides vital radio communication for firefighters in hazardous and potentially dangerous situations. The system consists of a Radio Distress Signalling Unit (RDSU) worn by the firefighter and an Entry Control Unit (ECU) which is located outside the hazardous area. The REDS equipment can automatically send distress messages from a firefighter in a dangerous situation or send an evacuation message. Furthermore, the system can send telemetry data such as air cylinder contents from the wearer of breathing apparatus. The equipment was designed to meet the requirements of the UK Home Office specification JCDD/40, A Fire Service User Requirement for Telemetry at Incidents.
