Greater ionic loading at higher pressures and feed rates Condensate polishing is the process of purification of condensate return by ion-exchange and filtration and is an important part of any industrial process or power generating system. Today's high-pressure fossil fuel fired and nuclear steam electric generating stations reuse the boiler condensate for a vast majority of their boiler feedwater to reduce operating costs and minimize waste discharge. Within this recycling of boiler feedwater impurities are introduced from several sources such as make-up water, condenser leaks, cooling water leaks and corrosion of metal surfaces. Condensate polishing is essential to the removal of these impurities and to ensure high quality feedwater to the boilers. The benefits of condensate polishing include: improved availability, turbine efficiency, quicker start ups, reduced water requirements and reduced need for chemical cleaning. Deep bed/mixed bed condensate polishers are favored by installations where the use of high TDS cooling water such as sea water or high TDS cooling tower are used as well as where the requirement to operate long term with small condenser leaks or the inability to control excessive air inleakage is occurring. Deep Bed and Precoat type Polishers remove iron, copper, silica and salts, whether soluble or suspended via their mixed bed resins. Deep Bed Polishers provide the best method for the removal of high ionic (impurities) loading due to the design of the flow of condensate through the vessels and resin media. Graver's Deep Bed Condensate Polishers have been designed to handle service pressures of up to 800psi and can handle flows up to 60gpm/square foot at our underdrain. Graver's inlet distributor and underdrain designs provide the capability to operate at condensate flowrates above those of our competitors. When Deep Bed Condensate Polishers are paired with a quality ion exchange resin such as the Gravex® Bead Resin efficient polishing of condensate is easily obtained.
