DENSITY-CONTROLLED MATERIALS

DENSITY-CONTROLLED MATERIALS

A range of products for injection-moulding which have controlled and variable density between 0.8 and 9.5 g/cm3. High-density compounds These are realized by adding heavy fillers of a metal or mineral nature to the thermoplastic resins. In this way, variable densities up to a maximum of 9.5 g/cm3 can be obtained. The choice of suitable neat basic resins makes it possible to obtain the filling of complicated geometric cavities even if they are thin-walled. The manufactured articles achieved show excellent superficial finishing, good dimensional stability and interesting mechanical properties. Low-density compounds The use of foaming agents in the field of injection-moulding is often found to be difficult to handle if not completely impractical. Low-density compounds are filled with special hollow glass spheres, ideal for obtaining materials with a density inferior to 1 g/cm3. Extremely light, of excellent superficial appearance, rigid and with good dimensional stability. >>>

ELECTRICALLY CONDUCTIVE PRODUCTS

ELECTRICALLY CONDUCTIVE PRODUCTS

Most of the polymers used in commercial application are essentially insulating from the electric point of view. This characteristic is able to lead to the accumulation of electrostatic charges, whose discharge manifests itself with the formation of sparks and arcs, so causing potential explosions if one is working in an explosive atmosphere. Besides the strong isolating ability of plastic materials makes the grounding of the above-mentioned ineffective. This problem can be dealt with only by abandoning polymers in favour of metals or by resorting to opportunely modified thermoplastics. The solution comes from the additivity of neat resins with electrically conductive products in order to obtain compounds characterized by variable resistivity within a range of 10 and 10^12 Ohm. >>>

RADIOPAQUE MATERIALS

RADIOPAQUE MATERIALS

Hese consist of a range of thermoplastic compounds for injection-moulding whose opacity to X-rays is more than sufficient to guarantee shielding comparable to that of metals; it is possible to optimize the shielding efficiency and contrast by selecting the type of charge and opportunely dosing the concentration. Advantages: The property of blocking X-rays generally proves to be more effective the higher the density of the apparatus they pass through. For this reason, lead is used extensively in the realization of all shielding apparatus both in medicine and in the industrial sector. In addition, metals and special ceramics are used to produce features that must be detected using X-ray analysis techniques. The problems connected to the materials in question, are however considerable: from the disposal due to the toxicity inherent to heavy metals, to the high cost of products visibile to X-rays, often realized in limited series through dedicated machining. >>>

SELF-EXTINGUISHING COMPOUNDS

SELF-EXTINGUISHING COMPOUNDS

Lame retardant additives are added to polymers to prevent the development of fire, to interrupt or to slow down combustion processes, and in this way protect lives, property and the environment. These additives are generally classified in two categories: halogenates and non-halogenates. LATI probably has one the vastest ranges of self-extinguishing products which covers a large spectrum of thermoplastic resins, from polyolefins to PEEK. Some polymers are basically self-extinguishing e.g. PEEK, LCP, PSU, PPSU, PES, PPS, while for others it is necessary to add flame-retardant and synergic additives e.g. PP, PA, PBT, ABS, PPA, SPS and others. 90% of LATI's Self-extinguishing products are certified UL and in general the self-extinguishing compounds comply with the requirements of UL94 (flame resistance), of UL746B (thermal resistance) and of UL746A (electrical properties). >>>

STRUCTURAL GRADES LATIGLOSS MATERIALS

STRUCTURAL GRADES LATIGLOSS MATERIALS

With structural products the substitution of metal is a concrete opportunity offered to designers who want to combine the intrinsic advantages of polymers with the great ease of transformation and flexibility of design by injection-moulding. The structural grades offer dimensional stability, rigidity, mechanical performances even under extreme stress and high temperatures, thanks to the reinforcements used, from glass fibre to high-tenacity carbon fibre, grades with an elastic module greatly superior to 20 GPa and a tensile stress superior to 230 MPa are available. In addition, specific formulations guarantee maximum resistance to phenomena such as creep and fatigue, so enabling manufactured articles destined to sustain repeated and prolonged stress to be designed. Special versions are also created to satisfy the most varied requirements, from self-extinguishing to self-lubrication, in coloured versions or with particular stabilization against ultraviolet radiation or chemical agression. High-aesthetical structural grades LATIGLOSS is a group of PA66 conceived for structural use and characterized by the exceptional properties of the surface finishing. With LATIGLOSS materials, the aspect of moulded products does not present the typical defects associated with a fibre content; this also applies to grades reinforced to 60%. >>>

THERMALLY CONDUCTIVE PRODUCTS

THERMALLY CONDUCTIVE PRODUCTS

Thermally conductive products are products whose efficiency in the transport of heat has been highly increased compared to the conductivity values of ordinary technical thermoplastics. The use of these materials allows the elimination of heat produced by electronic and electrical devices, facilitating heat transport as well as inducing local phenomena of natural convection. In this way effective cooling systems can be achieved for all those applicatory sectors in which, at present, materials whose high conductivity cannot be exploited to any great extent, due to the absence of environmental conditions for an efficient thermal exchange. Advantages of use: the weight is relatively modest compared to metal, the price is reduced, whereas the chemical inertness and the values of thermal dilation are comparable to those of metal - Available both in electrically isolating versions and conductive versions. >>>
