Description
Geared potentiometers of this series supply an analogue output signal proportional to the number of turns.
The potentiometer section is made up of standard elements from series P 6500
as shown in this catalogue. The gear mechanism comprises precision gear wheels, and the shaft is mounted in double ball bearings.
The gear mechanism and the potentiometer are mounted and pinned in the factory for minimum backlash. The shaft side of the gear mechanism case is provided with three M4 threaded holes offest by 120° for mechanical fixture of the transducer.

Description
Using this potentiometer a maximum angular rotation of 3800° can be converted into a voltage proportional to the angle of rotation, through the medium of a conductive-plastic
potentiometer.
This special "heavy-duty" version is designed to measure angular or linear displacement under the most difficult of enviromentat conditions. Simply yet robustly built, these units are suitable for use in all manner of industrial applications and engineering industry.
The cast housing is watertight. The single stage gearing is exceptionally backlash-free. Heavy-duty bearings allow for high axial loading on the shaft; gearwheels or even chain drives may be used directly drive the shaft.
Sealing is achieved through the use of a stepped bush whilst electrical connections are made via plug and socket mounted on the side of the unit.

INDUSTRIAL-GRADE POTENTIOMETER AW 360 ZE
Description
This potentiometer has been designed for use as an absolute 360° angle encoder.
Apart from direct analogue use, it can be used in conjunction with external A/D converter. In this
case, the unit operates as an angle transducer with 12 bit resolution and offering 10 or 11 bit absolute accuracy. The transducer only requires 6 connections, and these are made via a 6 pole, waterproof plug and socket. Contrary to the limitations encountered with other potentiometers, which have a dead band of some degrees which cannot be used, due to its two wipers and its hybrid circuit the AW 360 ZE can be used over all 360° of rotation. The reset voltages at the beginning and end of the sawtooth are well defined, and there is no function angle tolerance as is normally associated with potentiometers. These features together with the fact that the maximum output voltage is determined by the applied voltage means that units may be interchanged or replaced without the need to electrical adjust or trim. When turning the axle in cw (view on shaft end) the signal increases. Other output signals on request. The transducer delivers a logical signal quite separately from the analogue output which can be used to inhibit the A/D conversion during the reset period, in order to avoid measuring errors.
The housing is in compliance with protection class IP 65 with the conformable plug and is particularly suited to stringent requirements in the machine, plant and vehicle design sector.

POSITION TRANSDUCER, NON-CONTACTING TIM
Description
This absolute position transducer can be integrated directly in the pressurized zone
of pneumatic and hydraulic cylinders, thereby providing compact and cost-effective position
sensing.
The transducer consists of the stainless steel flange welded on the stainless steel pressure-
proof rod and the moving position marker. Signal processing electronic is completely build-in the flange. The transducer rod fits into the bored piston rod. The position marker is mounted on the piston bottom.
Using the plug-in flange version the complete transducer is mounted inside the cylinder and protected against external influences. This feature with highest durability is favoured especially for mobile applications in harsh environments.
Mounting is also possible in clevis-head cylinders or any space limited cylinder applications.
The touchless magnetostrictive measuring process offers a superior accuracy and high
dynamics. The measuring process is independent from a medium like hydraulic
liquids. The high mechanical ruggedness of the transducer combined with the underlying measuring technique means that the system is highly resistant to shock and vibration.
The measurement is accomplished using a passive ring-shaped position marker
which can be moved as a free-floating element. The touchless coupling makes installation even simpler, and the wear-free operation means unlimited mechanical life expectancy and unlimited traverse speed of the position
marker and permits stroke lengths up to 2500 mm.
The transducer’s integrated signal processing transforms the position information directly
into market standard voltage or current outputs.
Since the outputs are direct, no signal-conditioning electronics are needed when
interfacing with controllers or meters. The transducer complies with the usual EMC
requirements of agricultural- and forest machines and vehicles.
In addition to the standard configuration, the modular design provides customer specific terminal flanges and mounting variations.

POSITION TRANSDUCER, NON-CONTACTING TLM
Description
Transducers employing the "NOVOSTRICTIVE®" non-contact magnetostrictive measuring process for direct, precise and absolute measurement of travel and length in control, positioning and
measuring technology.
The measurement is accomplished using a passive position marker which can be moved as a free-floating or guided element.
Side coupling of the position marker reduces the installation envelope size, prevents the pump effect of slide arms and permits stroke lengths up to 4500 mm.
The non-contact coupling version makes installation even simpler, and the wear-free operation means unlimited mechanical life expectancy and unlimited traverse speed of the position marker.
The temperaure coefficient of the transducer is extremely low thanks to the measuring principle, form factor and selected materials.
The high mechanical ruggedness of the transducer combined with the underlying measuring technique mean that the system is highly resistant to shock and vibration.
The active sensing element is encased in an aluminum housing rated to IP 67. This makes the transducer resistant to contamination, dust, moisture and oils.
Mounting is accomplished using clamps that allow precise mechanical adjustment.
A sophisticated ASIC in the transducer provides for standard absolute output signals. In addition to the familiar interfaces such as the synchronous serial interface (24 or 25 bits) and the Start/Stop pulse interface, a high-dynamic serial “DyMoS” interface with data transfer monitoring is offered.
The advantages of conventional interfaces and bus interfaces have been combined in this Novetechnik “DyMoS” interface. In addition to the position value, the “DyMoS” interface also allows the actual traverse velocity to be sent.
The pulse interface also allows fully toleranced processing of both edges of the Start/Stop signal. As an option, the transducer can also be operated with multiple position markers.
