BLOTTING MEMBRANE SANDWICHES

Whatman offers an extensive line of blotting membrane sandwiches that are made with our high quality Protran® nitrocellulose or Westran® polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) membranes interleaved with superior 3MM blotting filter paper. Time saving blotting sandwiches The Blotting Sandwiches consist of a transfer membrane between 3MM blotting papers in a sandwich format. The pre-cut membrane with papers matches the most commonly used pre-cast electrophoresis gels. These blotting sandwiches offer convenience and time savings for high throughput labs using chemiluminescent detection or other common detection methods. The “ready to use” sandwiches are offered with Protran, which is of 100% nitrocellulose, or alternatively with Westran PVDF membrane. Protran is a UNIVERSAL blotting membrane suitable for Western (protein), Southern (DNA) and Northern (RNA) blots and has a very high binding capacity due to its sponge structure. Protran is hydrophilic, which means that no pre-wetting with toxic methanol is required. It is suitable for all common detection methods (radioactive, colourimetric, fluorescent, as well as chemiluminescent detection based on horseradish peroxidase systems like ECL/SuperSignal/Luminol and all common staining methods). Westran CS protein blotting membrane and Westran S protein sequencing membrane are both hydrophobic PVDF, an excellent support for protein transfer due to its high affinity for proteins and its broad compatibility with detection and analysis systems. Westran CS (Clear Signal) is specifically designed for Western blotting and protein dot-blotting applications. The membrane features high protein capacity and increased signal over a wide range of molecular weights. Westran S has a very high protein binding capacity and excellent chemical resistance and is ideal for protein sequencing. It is also compatible for use in non-sequencing Western Blotting applications. They do not introduce unwanted plasticizers or contaminants into the sample or mobile phase. PTFE (Teflon®) and Nylon 66 membrane disc filters are available in 13 and 25 mm diameters (for reusable syringe filter holders), and in 47 mm diameter for mobile phase filtration. SUPERCHARGE (SPC) - NYTRAN® MEMBRANE

Nytran SPC nylon membranes have a very high positive charge. Improvements in the manufacturing process result in a membrane with a higher density of nylon per unit area. The increased charge and greater nylon density provide increased binding sites for your samples. Nytran SPC membranes show a very uniform pore size and pore distribution compared to typical nylon membranes. They are free of surface microvoids which are common in other membranes. These characteristics lead to greater reproducibility of results across a membrane and from blot to blot. Nytran SPC membrane is cast uniformly on both sides of a support matrix, demonstrating excellent symmetry. This gives the membrane the ability to lie flat without curling. With typical manufacturing techniques, increasing positive charge tends to increase background. Nytran SPC membranes are manufactured using a process that allows the combination of high positive charge with low background. Whether using radioactive or non-radioactive detection techniques, Nytran SPC consistently gives high signal with extremely low background. >>>
