Record Alarm Overrides and Inhibits
The UK Health & Safety Executive’s Hazardous Installations Directive states,
Logic systems are likely to incorporate provisions for overrides,
for which there should be suitable management control arrangements. Procedures should be available which detail the operation of the protective system including, Override management (authorisation, security, recording, monitoring and review of overrides, reset requirements).
With the IMAC Custodian Override and Alarm Suppression Logbook, operators can enter alarm overrides and inhibits into a secure web enabled database eliminating the need for a paper logbook.

Simple Navigation The Override & Alarm Suppression Logbook has a simple icon driven menu, allowing even the most inexperienced operator to quickly access information and view all overrides or suppressed alarms which are currently active. Completely intuitive, the package provides the operator with a simple yet reliable means of tracking and controlling plant inhibits whilst managing alarms in accordance with industry best practise.
Unique User Login Every logbook Operator is assigned a unique 4 character PIN. This acts as a ‘digital signature’ which must be typed in before any entry will be accepted. With millions of different character combinations secure access is assured. As with a conventional paper logbook system, a supervisor must approve each inhibit made during that shift. In order to carry out this function, the supervisor must first login. As an added security feature the supervisor is automatically logged out after the shift (based on a predetermined time period), or if another supervisor logs in.
Improve Audit Trails A key factor in the design of IMAC Custodian is its clear and simple audit trail display. Every action that takes place in the logbook is recorded here. Each entry has a unique consecutive ID number, and is in chronological order. It is not possible to edit entries in the audit trail, however they can be copied into other applications or documents.
Reduce Human Error Integration with IMAC Sentinel automates much of the logbook procedure, this removes the risk of human error from these tasks, allowing operators to focus on more productive issues.
Perform Statistical Analysis As well as performing the conventional logbook function, it can also perform statistical analysis on overrides and suppressed alarms based on time period, Safety Integrity Level and area of plant. Using these results the operations team can develop an effective strategy for reducing the use of such inhibits.

IMAC Sentinel Functionality
IMAC Sentinel adopts a client/server architecture allowing both feature rich and thin clients to be deployed around the network all having real-time access to the data. The Sentinel Server connects to your devices and logs the data to its hard disk. The Sentinel Clients are then used to view and analyse the data.

IMAC Sentinel’s unique interface allows all configured inputs to be viewed on screen at the same time. Analysis, including searching and alarm frequency distribution can then be quickly and easily performed on this data. No matter what analysis or monitoring is being carried out the real time data is always visible on screen.

Exporting Data
Any alarm, event, report or screen dump logged by IMAC Sentinel can be printed or exported to plain text files, word documents or database tables. In addition ODBC functionality allows data to be exported in real-time to 3rd party software packages such as Microsoft Excel and Oracle. This enables IMAC Sentinel to populate a database, spreadsheet or application with any message logged to the system.
Screen Dump Capture
IMAC Sentinel has the ability to handle graphical screen dumps sent from control systems. When a screen dump is received it is automatically converted and saved as a JPEG. This is then displayed in the relevant window on the screen. It can automatically print this image to the default Windows printer, regardless of its make and model.
Alarm Prioritisation and Filtering
Any alarm or event logged by IMAC can be tagged as a priority alarm. This automatically changes the colour of that message. Searches and filters can be applied to certain priorities of messages making it easier to identify problems. In addition, any one of these messages can be copied or moved to another window on the screen, for example you could separate all the alarms and operator actions, or copy all the critical alarms to another window.
Alarm Analysis
IMAC Sentinel provides two types of alarm analysis, Frequency and Alarm Rates. Frequency Analysis is used to show which alarms and events are occurring most often. This can help identify nuisance or chattering alarms.
The Alarm Rates function counts all alarms over any time period, displaying the results as a graph and table. It is possible to overlay graphs to show operator actions as well as alarms. This quickly shows the operator workload superimposed on top of the alarm rates.
All reports generated can be configured to run automatically multiple times a day.

Pollution Risk Offshore Technical Evaluation System
Understanding and predicting the environmental impact of discharges from offshore installations is fundamental to the environmental management and
planning of offshore facilities. The Pollution Risk Offshore Technical EvalUation System (PROTEUS) surpasses existing technology in its ability to predict the physical dispersion, chemical interactions and ecotoxicological risk for discharges during exploration, production and decommissioning.
Offshore operators routinely require knowledge of the impacts of inputs to the marine environment. During exploration the fate of drilling wastes is an important consideration in the Environmental Impact Statement. In production, the discharge of produced water and associated chemical additives becomes important when considering the economic and environmental implications of alternative treatment. In planning for decommissioning the environmental impact of removal requires an assessment in order to select the Best Practicable Environmental Option (BPEO).
Development
PROTEUS has been developed over a five year period, during which time academic research into water plume and particulate mixing behaviour, offshore chemical behaviour and marine ecotoxicology has focused on developing the underpinning models required to predict the overall impact of discharges.
Exploration Drilling
The model uses a unique database to generate suitable cuttings size distributions based on drilling plans. The model is able to simulate the complete drilling operation including multiple sections, different mud systems, workover delays, and bulk or continuous discharges of material.
Decommissioning
The disturbance of existing piles during the decommissioning process is supported by PROTEUS using detailed hydrodynamic information to simulate the re-distribution of mud/cuttings following intervention or removal operations.
Produced Water Discharges
PROTEUS is able to model the dynamic, buoyancy and passive mixing phase of produced waters discharged into seawater.

IMAC Sentinel Lite Functionality
IMAC Sentinel Lite is a data logger designed to replace control room printers. This involves capturing the data from the serial ports and storing it on the hard disk for historic viewing. The user interface is clear and easy to use. Captured data is displayed on the screen in real time. Using the mouse you simply double click the window you wish to look at, this ‘zooms’ in allowing you to view the data more
closely.
Viewing Historical Data
Zooming into a window enables you to view the stored messages. From here you can scroll back through the database viewing the alarms and events exactly as they were printed from your control system. The further back you go, the older the messages are that appear in the window. In addition you can also print and export the messages to a file.
Searching for Specific Alarms or Events
IMAC Sentinel Lite has a powerful search engine which can find any event in the database within seconds. Searches can be trigged from any text, such as tag reference or area number. Date and time ranges can also be applied so only alarms and events for a specific time period can be displayed.

IMAC Sentinel Lite has the ability to handle graphical screen dumps sent from control systems. When a screen dump is received it is automatically converted and saved as a JPEG. Search Area Determination
The SAD component of the system predicts the movement of a target under the combined action of winds, tides and tidal currents. Using methodologies developed by the UK Maritime and Coastguard Agency, the system establishes the most probable search area based on a range of error and statistical deviations. These include rapid response, datum point, datum line and backtrack search and rescue (SAR) planning methodologies. SARIS has in-built databases of tides, currents, targets leeway and navigational error for rapid model set-up.
Search Area Coverage
Once search areas have been established, SARIS provides the user with a suite of tools for configuring and deploying Search and Rescue Unit's (SRU's) in searching for the lost target(s). These advanced and easy to use graphical tools allow very rapid planning for best use of SAR resources. These SAC tools include the search patterns:
