AGRICULTURE LIME

AGRICULTURE LIME

Agricultural Lime is one of the limestone quarrying industry's traditional products, recognised for centuries as an important farming supplement and is still widely used today to help maximise crop yields and minimise the use of other, more costly fertilisers. Over time the acidity of soils tends to increase. The addition of calcium carbonate helps stabilise the acidity of the soil and provides essential calcium for support of crops. Liming is well understood to hold the key to improving crop growth and yields by limiting the adverse affects of high soil acidity (low pH values). Substantial research has been done on the optimal pH range for various crops. The complete liming solution for Farmers Regular pH testing forms the basis of successful agricultural lime application. Longcliffe offers this service as part of their customer support package along with field mapping and expert advice on products and application techniques. >>>

LIMESTONE

LIMESTONE

Limestone is a sedimentary rock formed from compressed plant and animal remains at the bottom of lakes and seas. The hardness and density of limestone can vary widely, so it is wise to seek advice from us on which limestone is most suitable for your intended use. Most limestones come in beige or cream, however the Amarestone range has been extended from off-white through to a dense black and can be honed, antiqued or highly polished to create the desired effect. >>>

LIMEWASH

LIMEWASH

We make and supply our own limewashes based on a 50/50 blend of our own superior matured lime putty and water, together with both natural and manufactured pigments to produce a fantastic range of colours. We follow a traditional recipe of adding a little raw linseed oil which improves external watershedding and consolidates the surface a little. We make a particularly less watery limewash compared to a number of suppliers as our many customers prefer to buy limewash rather than water. >>>

COMPACT VARIETY OF LIMESTONE - TRAVERTINE

COMPACT VARIETY OF LIMESTONE - TRAVERTINE

TRAVERTINE Travertine is a compact variety of limestone formed along streams, particularly where there are waterfalls and around hot or cold springs. Characterised by naturally occuring pitted holes and troughs in its surface, Travertine often has these tiny holes filled with grout to produce a smooth finish. When pure, travertine is white, but like other natural stone, can take on a variety of warm hues and colours due to impurities such as clay and sand. Good quality Travertine is hard wearing and a great disguise for dirt! So a fantastic stone for heavy duty areas. The gallery below shows a selection form our Premium Travertine range. We stock a variety of sizes and finishes so please do call for further information or click ‘stone details’ below. Travertine prices start at £20 m2. >>>

TRAVERTINE - LIMESTONE

TRAVERTINE - LIMESTONE

Travertine is an extremely hardwearing stone that has been used for floors and walls since Roman times. It is formed from hot springs bubbling up through underground limestone which results in the characteristic small holes in the stone. These holes may be filled at the quarry and the tiles honed to give a smooth, matt contemporary look or they can be left unfilled and tumbled to give a more rustic appearance. Like marble, travertine can be used throughout the home. >>>

NATURAL HYDRAULIC LIME - LIMECRETE

NATURAL HYDRAULIC LIME - LIMECRETE

Limecrete is a mixture of natural hydraulic lime (NHL) and aggregate that can be used to create breathable floors. It offers increased vapour permeability which is especially important for traditional buildings, and is often used in combination with breathable membranes. LECA (lightweight expanded clay aggregate) can be used instead of sand to create a warmer floor design. The LECA can be used both as a loose fill insulation under the limecrete slab and incorporated into the limecrete slab by mixing with NHLs. The LECA is available in a range of particle sizes and the NHLs in a variety of strengths. We offer practical advice on floor design. LECA can be incorporated to create an insulated floor to create a more comfortable breathable floor for a period property. Limecrete floors can also be used in conjunction with a modern insulation to conform to building regulations for new build or conversions. >>>
