The Racal 3271 VXIbus signal generator packs high-performance signal synthesis and modulation capability into a C-size, dual-slot VXIbus instrument.
The 3271 signal generator, with its wide bandwidth and high level range capability, is ideal for many general-purpose RF laboratory or production test applications required by a wide range of modern digital and analog test systems. The 3271 also provides a compact alternative to GPIB instruments especially where large numbers of signal sources are required such as in the testing of Frequency Division Multiplexing (FDM) links. DescriptionThis E-field generator features a frequency range of 10 kHz to 30 MHz and generates a large area uniform vertical electrical field. The Model 5503 top plate consists of four separate tube conductors that are connected in parallel at the feed and load ends. This four-wire transmission line acts as a plate conductor at frequencies up to 30 MHz. A vertical, quasi-static TEM mode electric field is produced between the four-wire system and the ground plane of a semi-anechoic chamber. The width-to-height ratio of the "four-wire plate" is designed for an impedance match to a 50 ohm system without an input transformer. An external forced-air-cooled load is used to terminate the Model 5503. The cooling system maintains proper operating temperature and is monitored by a temperature sensor. The load housing is connected to a plate in the chamber floor. A pulley systems allows users to manually adjust the height to accommodate various equipment under test (EUT) sizes. The E-field generator is easy to assemble and disassemble, and can be removed from the chamber when needed.
Electric Field Distribution
The ETS-Lindgren Model 5503 field generator generates a vertical electric field between the transmission lines and the metal ground plane of a semi-anechoic chamber. The electric field distribution is modeled and optimized numerically and experimentally. The transition regions are designed to suppress higher order modes of electric field, which makes the Model 5503 suitable to operate at high frequencies while maintaining a large uniform area. The electric field distribution is computed by Numerical Electromagnetics Code II (NEC 2). A 10 kW RF input power is assumed. A full numerical model is utilized, so no assumptions are made regarding the input impedance or any other electric properties of the field generator. The height is adjustable during vehicle testing. Generally, field strength is higher for lower conductor heights. Field distributions for typical frequencies and heights are shown here. Additional data are available upon request.
Technical Description
The Model 5503 is suspended from the chamber ceiling with nonconductive ropes. Manual height adjustment is achieved with a pulley system. The conductors are made of 2” OD aluminum tubing with Kwik-Flange . connectors at each end. Typically, the flat central section is assembled on the floor and then lifted into place with the ropes. The I/O end tapered sections are then attached to the flat central section and grounded to floor plates. After testing, all tubing can be disconnected and the unit may be removed from the chamber.

The Ringing Generator RCG 1001 produces high voltage, low frequency sinus signals with an RMS value of 100 V (calling signal). The RCG 1001 provides the possibility to add a second high frequency
signal (signal). Three different curve shapes are available (sinus, triangle, square).
Description
Both signals can be selected independently. The signals can be clipped with the help of a pushbutton or external instrument (Sparnex – MIG 1001) for specific impulse/pause timing. In addition the RCG 1001 contains an RMS-responsive instrument and indicates the adjusted frequency.
The necessary terminating impedance's (0 W, 200 W, 7,5 kW, "response", "no response") for verifying the response sensitivity (FTZ-directions 1TR2) are integrated.
The output-current is limited to 100mA or customer adaptable. A LED indicates if the current has been limited. Another LED warns for higher voltages (> 45 rms) on the output - jack.

With the 3151A+'s WaveCAD Graphical Waveform Creation software one can create virtually an unlimited variety of production or engineering test stimuli. Freehand sketch mode allows permits users to draw their own custom waveform for quick analysis of a communications channel or a signal encoding scheme. WaveCAD's library of built-in mathematical functions and equation entry ability frees the users to create their own exotic functions. Add or subtract components of a Fourier series to characterize digital or analog filters. Or, inject random bursts into a signal to test immunity to switching noise.
Up to 512K Waveform Memory for High Speed Testing
The Model 3151A+ provides up to 512 k of waveform memory, far more than competitive models. This waveform memory is accessible via a high-speed interface. Also, waveform memory is segmentable, allowing the storage of up to 4096 different waveforms of variable size. This allows test software to switch between many different waveforms rapidly and without having to download multiple times, enhancing test throughput in a way that cannot be duplicated by other competing products.
Sequences of up to 4096 Waveforms
Powerful sequencing capability allows the linkage of up to 4096 waveform segments and/or bursts (repeated segments) into strings. A segment can be repeated up to 1 M times in burst mode. possible to use the unit for testing meterpulse-receivers with different technical characteristics.
The Pulse-Generator
Key features
Generates a settable amount (n) of pulses with settable pulse-duration (Ti) and settable pause-length (TP).
The values are as follows:
n = 0 ... 9999
Ti = 0 ... 9999 msec.
Tp = 0 ... 9999 msec.
The values will be set by means of a separate four-digit thumbwheel switch for each setting. The valid counting of the pulse-series in progress can be seen on a four digit LED. The pulse-series may start - settable by a switch - with the pulse duration or the pause. Starting can be achieved by a pushbutton or an external trigger signal. The pulse series will stop after reaching the preset value or by using the stop button. If the stop signal occurs during a pulse duration, the pulse will be transmitted without shortening. By these means no pulse transmitting will be displayed by two LEDs.

The Racal Instruments Model 3152A Waveform Synthesizer combines 100 MS/s performance, versatility, and compact size in a single-slot VXIbus format. The 3152A is a field-proven instrument ideal for VXI test stimulus generation and is standard on many military and commercial test platforms.
Multifunctional Performance

7-Digit Frequency Resolution
The 3152A's DDS (Direct Digital Synthesis) frequency synthesizer provides the high signal-noise ratio (70 dB, typical) and low phase-noise and jitter needed for telecommunications test applications.
Phase Locking and Phase Modulation
The 3152A is the first VXIbus module to incorporate external analog Phase Modulation (PM) and Phase Locking to external analog waveforms into a single instrument. The PM feature is useful in real-time phase offset control and telecom applications. The phase lock feature automatically locks the 3152A's output to external signals at frequencies up to 10 MHz and voltages up to 30 Vrms. Phase offset is programmable with 0.01º resolution, and the trigger threshold is programmable with 10 mV resolution.
