SEL RAINWATER HARVESTING SYSTEMS

SEL RAINWATER HARVESTING SYSTEMS

The concept of capturing rainwater and storing it for later use is well documented from pre-Roman times across all the major continents. Until recently, in industrialised countries, the practice had largely died away with the introduction of reliable mains supplied water. With the ever-growing demand for water (and subsequent increases in cost), and the known adverse impacts this can have on local environments, the UK market demand for rainwater recycling systems is on the increase. Rainwater Harvesting solutions can now be offered as part of the Althon SUDS range. SEL Permavoid® units are high strength highly voided (95%) polypropylene structures which are designed to replace sub-base. The inherent strength of the SEL Permavoid® units allows shallow installation so a harvesting tank can be sited almost anywhere i.e. beneath car parking areas, under roads etc. The flexibility of the system allows the tank to be constructed to any shape or size therefore allowing it to avoid any buried services, building foundations etc. The flexibility and robustness of the system also makes it ideal for retrofit. Collected rainwater can be stored in a standalone attenuation tank constructed from SEL Permavoid® units encapsulated in an impermeable fully welded membrane. Alternatively tanks can be linked to the SEL Source Control System. Storage capacity would be calculated for individual requirements. Typically the storage requirements would range from 10m3 to 80m3. The tanks are charged via a unique Rainwater Diverter Chamber which provides simple diversion control, filling up the Rainwater Harvesting Tank in preference to the surface water drainage system. Once the Rainwater Harvesting Tank is full, the rainwater is diverted back to the drainage system. To prevent any possibility of back up from the main drainage system into the Rainwater Harvesting Tank an anti–surcharge chamber incorporating a flap valve is placed downstream of the Diverter in accordance with current legislation. Typically water stored within the Rainwater Harvesting Tank is pumped back into a building from a simple and shallow pump chamber, to a header tank normally situated within the roof space. The water can then be fed by gravity to supply any required facilities i.e. toilets, irrigation for landscaping etc. Please note that back up from the mains water supply must be provided in accordance with current Water Supply Regulations Providing there is sufficient annual rainfall, reusing water for flushing toilets and landscape watering could account for up to 50% of total water consumption. >>>

HELICAL PULLDOWN MICROPILES

HELICAL PULLDOWN MICROPILES

The Helical Pulldown® Micropile (HPM) is a method used to form a grout column around the shaft of a standard helical anchor/pile. The installation process can employ grout only (see Uncased Helical Pulldown® Micropile) or grout in combination with either steel or PVC casing (see Cased Helical Pulldown® Micropile). To begin the process, a helical anchor/pile is placed into the soil by applying torque to the shaft. The helical shape of the bearing plates creates a significant downward force that keeps the foundation advancing into the soil. After the Lead Section with the helical plates penetrates the soil, a Lead Displacement Plate and Extension are placed onto the shaft. Resuming torque on the assembly advances the helical plates and pulls the displacement plate downward, forcing soil outward to create a cylindrical void around the shaft. From a reservoir at the surface, a flowable grout immediately fills this void surrounding the shaft. Additional extensions and displacement plates are added until the helical bearing plates reach the minimum depth required or competent load-bearing soil. This displacement pile system does not require removing spoils from the site. >>>
