FIRE FIGHTING SYSTEMS

FIRE FIGHTING SYSTEMS

Fixed fire fighting systems must be carefully selected following an assessment of the risk, both the risk of fire and the risks associated with the operation of the fixed fire fighting system. If chosen correctly the system will extinguish the fire rapidly enabling operations to be re-started following removal of the fire source and reinstatement of the protection system. Key installations may require duplicate systems so that servicing or re-charging of a system does not interrupt processes. The systems approved by LPCB are for the protection of specific risks e.g. computer rooms, switch gear, high risk production lines etc. Great care needs to be taken in the choice of agent with respect to life safety, damage to equipment from bi-products, venting and the time it takes to have the system operational again after a discharge incident. The components listed by LPCB have been assessed and tested to the appropriate standard and the production facilities have been assessed to ensure that the components meet and continue to meet these standards. In order to maintain approval these facilities are re-inspected twice a year and the components examined and tested as necessary. LPCB approval of components does not mean that the system has approval. Please search our Red Book to check it out first. To date components have been approved as a whole but with the publication of the European Norms in this area, each component will receive its own certification in readiness for CE Marking. Compatibility of the components will be covered under EN12094 Part 20. Individual approvals will start to appear in the website over the next year. To be confident that a fixed fire extinguishing system will successfully cover your risk, a fully approved system (including components) should be installed by a approved Installer. It is important for specifiers to require an LPS 1204 Certificate of Conformity. >>>
