Description
Manufactured from a hard wearing specially treated glass cloth filled with a mixture of mineral fibre and reactive expansion agents, which on exposure to heat from a fire will first expand and then harden to provide a complete and durable seal against the passage of fire, smoke and hot gases.
Intumescent Fire Pillows can be used for creating either temporary or permanent fire barriers and are ideal for sealing cable trays and ducts that penetrate fire rated structures.
The pillows have been independently tested in accordance with BS476: Part 20: 1987 and can provide up to 4 hours fire integrity.
Also tested to EN1366-3, LANTAC Building Control Approval and NHBC Type Approval.
They contain no asbestos or halogens and therefore can be used in areas such as telephone exchanges, computer rooms and in areas where services are continually being modified.

Description
Cavities are created in many wall constructions to aid thermal insulation performance and to provide a moisture barrier. Such constructions are common in residential, public and commercial buildings.
Completely closing the cavity, for example with solid cavity barriers, can detract from its performance and can result in both thermal and moisture bridging and potential structural damage.
These wall cavities can form unrestricted chimneys which, if left unprotected, can allow fire to spread both vertically and horizontally around a building.
Cavities are subject to Building Regulations and most should be fitted with fire barriers to prevent the spread of fire via the open cavity.
To combat this ASTROFLAME as part of its continuing development of passive fire protection solutions has developed a Cavity Fire Barrier On a Roll.

Description
The use of recessed switch and socket boxes in walls is widespread in private, public and commercial buildings. The walls are subject to fire regulations and, most will have to be fire rated.
Once a hole is made in the wall for a recessed switch or socket box, the integrity of the construction and its ability to perform in a fire can be reduced significantly, in addition the ability for the wall to provide an effective acoustic barrier is also impaired. In timber framed buildings the prevention of fire entering wall cavities and attacking the structure is critical to the overall fire integrity of the building.
To combat this ASTROflame, as part of its continuing development of passive fire and acoustic protection solutions, has developed a socket / switch fire and acoustic protection cover as an easy fit alternative to putty pads.
The covers have been developed to provide maximum protection for penetrations created by the introduction of both single and double recessed switch / socket boxes and to allow ease of fitting. In a fire situation, the cover expands internally to fill all of the available space with a fire resistant highly insulating char. The fire is unable to penetrate the hole and the cover is able to give additional insulation protection to the wall void by reducing the chance of heat build up and the ignition of flammable structural members. The penetration in the wall also provides a path for air, thus creating heat loss and drafts, the fitting of a ASTRO FRA Socket Box Cover reduces this problem.
The single socket box is designed for most common single & double boxes. In a wall with two layers of plasterboard on each face, the ends of the fixing wires can be pushed between the plasterboard layers.

Fire Test and Assessment Reports
ASTRO FRA Socket Box Covers have been tested to BS476 part 20 in an un-insulated plasterboard wall construction for 120 minutes without failure in either insulation or integrity.
Acoustically tested by Sound Research Laboratories to both BS EN150 140-3: 1995 & BS 2750 Part 3 1995.

Description
The Astroflame range of Astro FT Fire Trunking Sleeves are intended for use where plastic trunking passes through a fire rated wall. The sleeve reinstates the fire rating of the wall which would otherwise be lost.
In the event of a fire, the Astro FT Trunk Sleeve expands with the heat, crushing the trunking and closing off the hole to the fire for at least 2 hours.
The FT Trunk Sleeves are available to fit common sizes of plastic trunking and are suitable for retro fitting with access only required from one side. They are suitable for use with plastic trunking or can be used with cabling passed directly through the sleeve. 25mm thick wall

Description
The sub-division of compartments in a building, if effectively fire-stopped, will prevent the spread of fire and smoke through fire-resisting and separating elements, thereby reducing the risk of and fire damage to the primary building structure.
Electrical penetrations, such as metal trunking, by necessity breach these elements. It is therefore essential that fully tested products/systems are installed to maintain the integrity and insulation of the compartment wall or floor whilst providing adequate thermal insulation to the penetrating services.
Consisting of a pre-fabricated metal frame which contain compressed intumescent fillers, ASTRO Clamp has been designed to stop fire-stop cables, cable trays, trunking and pipes. They are able to accommodate multiple penetrations either isolated or grouped together.
Tested in accordance with BS476 Part 20: 1987, ASTRO Clamp has achieved integrity and insulation ratings in excess of 120 minutes in both wall and floor configurations. The intumescent fillers contained within the ASTRO Clamp will intumesce (expand) at about 115°C forming an insulating char.
Areas Of Use

SPRINKLER SYSTEMS
For over a hundred years sprinklers have protected people and property all over the world. Application of sprinkler installation codes which have been developed over the years has ensured high
levels of fire protection.
Sprinklers have been tested and approved by the us and our predecessor, the Fire Offices' Committee (FOC) for many years.
Statistics show that sprinklers extinguish or control between 98 and 99 percent of fires that break out in sprinklered premises, 82 percent by 4 sprinkler heads or less.
Close liaison between the LPCB and BRE's test laboratories ensures that new features can be properly evaluated beyond the requirements of the defined test standard. Statistical information shows that when new fire hazards are identified, standards can be developed accordingly.
Standards used by LPCB for approving and listing components have been developed to ensure that the components are suitable for use in systems installed to the LPC Sprinklers Rules/BS 5306:Part 2. In almost every case the components will be suitable for use in installations designed to NFPA rules and to other national sprinkler installation codes.
