CAGE FILTER NOZZLES

CAGE FILTER NOZZLES

Material Specification 1. The nozzles shown here are generally made of stabilised polypropylene (PPH-PPN) (series No. 1000). Filter nozzles for the processing of cold water (Gravel-Filters) could, if necessary, be made from cheaper material, however, the hardness, toughness and wear-resistance of the above material would not be obtained with cheaper material. 2. Polypropylene (PPH-PPN) of the type 1000 series has a permanent temperature resistance of from 80 to 100o C. For temperatures below 0o C we recommend PPH 1022 material. 3. The polypropylene (PPH-PPN) of the type 1000 series has complete resistance against the following heat-and chemical-treatment: - against saturated boiling solutions of normal salt, up to 12 months at 100o C - against a 30% hydrocholoric acid up to 60o C; also against a 50% caustic soda solution. 4. This material is especially suitable for neutralisation of activated carbon at a temperature of 120o C watersteam (at short runs 2-3 times a year). Having a temperature of 80-100o C on a continuous basis will do no harm. 5. The percentage of water absorption of polypropylene (PPH-PPN) is negligible. After a period of permanent use of up to 6 months, no swelling and no outside changes have been observed. 6. During all permanent tests in hot or cold water, which have been made up to now, no changes of the compressive strength and tensile strength have been observed. 7. The commission appointed by the Bundesgusendheitsamt (Federal Hygienic Institute in Germany) to test plastic materials in respect to health requirement, has approved polypropylene of series No. 1000 to be in conformity with the Lebernsmittelgesetz (Food Products Laws). >>>

IRON REMOVAL FILTERS

IRON REMOVAL FILTERS

These filters contain a special iron removal media. The media catalyses the oxidation of the iron in the water which is then filtered out on the media. Backwashing of the filter removes the iron and rejuvenates the media. Iron removal filters are used sometimes to protect ion exchange and reverse osmosis equipment, and sometimes separately, where the unpalatable taste and staining characteristics of iron is causing a problem. Backwashing is carried out by reversing the flow through the bed, thus lifting and expanding the filter bed.The grains of sand collide with each other and, in doing so, free the accumulated suspended solids which are swept away to drain with the backwash water. Sometimes air is injected prior to backwash water to break up the bed. This reduces the flow rate of backwash water required to effectively clean the filter bed. Selection of sand filter sizes can only be performed after careful examination of the water analysis, flow rates and required purity of filtered water. >>>

SALT DUST ARRESTER/FILTER SOCKS

SALT DUST ARRESTER/FILTER SOCKS

Salt SaturatorsDust Arrester/Filter SocksSALT DUST ARRESTER/FILTER SOCKS A louvered type vent system is incorporated in our standard model salt saturators. With this system any escaping dust would be vented out through the louvered vent. If your application was based indoors or in a sensitive area other means of venting should be considered. Ian Flockton Developments Ltd are able to offer alternate filter systems in the form of either a filter sock or salt dust arrester. The filter sock is primarily for an indoor application. It is made up from a fabric type porous material to prevent any pressurisation during filling. The filter sock is attached to a vent of the top of the vessel and is designed to catch any escaping dust within the sock itself. It is recommended that the sock is emptied by the drawstrings after each fill. The dust arrester is a small tank based next to the salt saturator. The dust arrester is connected to the vessel via a 12" PVC vent line. In this vent line there is a supply of water which passes through a spray nozzle. The spray effect is designed to guide the dust into the arrester. The dust then sits in a bed of water and is distributed away via a 2" outlet. Dust arresters will remove the majority of dust but in highly sensitive areas a specialist dust removal system may be required. >>>

MEMBRANE - HYDRO-X89

MEMBRANE - HYDRO-X89

The Problem The traditional approach to water treatment is to use a combination of treatment stages which could include coagulation, settlement, and filtration to remove contaminants, and then rely on disinfection, where required, to ensure the safety of the treated water. However, coagulation and granular media filtration, are only partially effective in removing the contaminants, which places a heavy burden on the subsequent stages. Moreover, some contaminants such as Cryptosporidium are resistant to disinfectants. Membranes offer a radically different approach to the issues of water quality, since the membrane provides an essentially complete barrier to even the smallest contaminant affecting water quality. The Kalsep Approach (back to top) Since its inception as a specialist separations company, Kalsep has been dedicated to providing value engineered solutions to water treatment probLems. Our innovative Fibrotex fibrous filters (which won the prestigious Hydro Award for Water Quality Improvement) are now installed world-wide with over 500 units in the UK alone. Similar accolades have been received for the development of a new range of high performance membranes, specifically developed to address water treatment applications. Following awards under the DTI's ETIS and SMART schemes, Kalsep have introduced KALMEM and KALMEM LF membranes to a range of water treatment duties. By combining a breakthrough in membrane performance with reductions in manufacturing costs, Kalsep have breached a cost barrier which once seemed impenetrable. But Kalsep doesn't just offer membranes. We offer membrane solutions reinforced by process guarantees, extensive trial facilities, and field experience. Directflow Operation (back to top) After initial pre-treatment through a pre-filter, the feed water enters the bore side of hollow fibres in the membrone module. The particulates and macromolecules are retained, whilst the clarified water is allowed to pass as permeate through the membrone. Normally, aperoting in direct/low made, the high flow rote is maintained by a simple backflush using collected permeate. Periodically, a chemical is injected into the back flush to minimise the build-up of fouling contaminants such as scale or biofouling to restore the original flux. The Technology (back to top) Membranes A membrane is a semi-permeable barrier which enables components of a feedstream to be retained whilst allowing the carrier fluid to permeate through. The pore size of the membrane can be tailored such that the degree of separation can be preciseLy controlled. In water treatment applications, membranes in the ultrafiltration (UF) or microfiltration (MF) size ranges remove fine particulate contaminants. Kalsep's membranes are made from the polymer polyethersulphone (PES), with pore sizes throughout the UF and MF ranges. A special low fouling modification has been used to create a unique series of membranes with remarkable properties. Not only are flux rates enhanced in comparison with conventional membranes, but these flux rates can be sustained even for highly fouling surface waters with cleaning requirements minimised. Process Design The most effective format of Kalsep's membrane technology is in the form of fine hollow fibres. By using an internal diameter of as low as 0.8mm, the membrane surface area can be maximised in the module whilst avoiding productivity constraints, due to excessive pressure drop. Directflow The advantage of the innovative direct/low process is that the bore side pressure drop is maintained at a low level, whilst high fluxes are sustained by use of a frequent backflush. During the forward flow cycle no retentate or waste stream is drawn from the outlet end of the module. Instead, the outlet is closed to form a dead end, so that any particulates rejected by the membrane become increasingly concentrated within the bores of the hollow fibres. The high permeate flowrate is maintained by a simple backflush using collected permeate for a short time once or twice per hour. During the backflush, any particulate fouling of the membrane surface is removed and, together with the concentrated reject, is flushed from the module. Transmembrane pressures (TMP) are extremely low in the directflow process, typically well below 1 bar. The Benefits (back to top) Water Quality Treats feedstreams of widely differing quality to meet water industry targets for metal ion removal and turbidity reduction. Reduces Silt Density Index to meet pre-treatment requirements for reverse osmosis or nanofiltration. Cold disinfection Removes viruses and bacteria using ultrafiltration membranes. Reduces chlorine demand, and hence contact tank requirements. Produces water free from pathogenic micro-organisms. Chlorine Tolerance Can resist a continuous chlorine residual. Non bio-degradeable. Low Backwash Minimises wastage of backwash water and reduces the need for ancillary tanks and pumps. Environmental Minimises environmental impact and chemical consumption by eliminating the need for dosing chemicals and reducing expenditure on cleaning chemicals and waste treatment. Reduces energy costs by having directflow or low crossflow mode of operation. Custom Design Customises the design of the water treatment system to meet specific needs. High Performance Higher sustained flux, and hence smaller footprint. Compact & modular. The Application (back to top) HYDRO-X provides cost effective, high performance filtration of feed water in process streams in a wide range of industries. These include: Water Utilities Desalination Engineering Micro-electronics Brewing Major applications for HYDRO-X include: Mains water pre-treatment for colloid removal and SDI reduction Filtration of potable water supplies drawn from non-mains source i.e. borehole, surface water High removal of micro-organisms including crypto, bacteria & viruses Filtration of sea water prior to RO treatment >>>

SIDE STREAM FILTER: DSF 15

SIDE STREAM FILTER: DSF 15

Filtration occurs in nature when rain water passes between many layers of sand and gravel. The gravel and sand act as a filter to collect solid particles and therefore leave the water pure. This process has been adapted to achieve the same effect in industry; water passes through layers of porous material such as sand or carbon, which acts as a filter and 'catches' any solid impurities, thus leaving the water clean. >>>

ABSORPTIVE CARTRIDGES - GO-NO-GO®

Facet’s Go-No-Go (GNG) absorptive cartridges perform two jobs with one cartridge. It absorbs water and removes solids reliably and efficiently. As the product stream flows from the outside of the cartridge to the inside, the GNG special water absorbent medium retains water, and the pleats expand. As the maximum water holding capacity is reached, there is a reduction in flow. The cartridge slows, then stops the flow of product as it reaches maximum capacity. This indicates that the cartridge is ready to be changed, assuring you of clean, dry product. • Absorbs highly emulsified water to less than 5 ppm • Provides positive shut-off—increased differential pressure signals cartridge change-out • Holds larger amounts of water than competition • Ultra fine particulate removal efficiencies • High collapse rating of cartridges • Quick, easy cartridge change-out • Easy housing installation • Recommended maximum operating temperature: 180°F • Maximum differential pressure: 100 psi (7.0 kg/cm2) • Flow direction: outside to in • Layered multi-media pleated sections • All metal components treated to protect against corrosion • Special water absorbing medium • Metal support shells • Standard gasket material is Buna-N—other materials available upon request >>>

MAGNETITE FILTER

MAGNETITE FILTER

Lowe Engineering are increasingly being requested for a means of contending with Magnetite fouling of needle valves, pressure reducing valves etc. on Steam and Hot Water Sampling Systems. This problem has been very significantly compounded by the cycling regimes (2 shifting) found in many modern power generation plants. Lowe reviewed several solutions including pulsed electromagnetic separation, cyclones etc but concluded that each of them introduced significant collateral disadvantages. The optimum design has proved in actual plant trials to be able to considerably reduce the problem. The Unit is introduced into the sample line after the cooler and can in most cases be easily retrofitted, requiring no power to operate it and some minor changes to the pipework. The magnetite is retained in the body and at an appropriate time is back-flushed to drain. The time interval between back-flushes is of course determined by the amount of magnetite in the system but tests have shown that it is capable of no intervention for at least two weeks under normal running with magnetite concentrations of 500 ppb >>>
