The heating elements are embedded in aluminium, brass, copper-nickel or cast iron. These sturdy and tightly sealed products are designed for use in severe industrial surroundings (impacts, vibrations) to provide even heating, flat or cylindrical. Aluminium-moulded elements, used for heating applications up to 400 °C, can have a maximum mass of 400 kg. Brass-moulded elements (maximum process temperature : 600°C) and Cupronickel-moulded elements (maximum process temperature : 650°C) can have a maximum mass of 300 kg. Duplicate-moulded elements (collars, plates,…) are manufactured on request. Devices can be produced according to ATEX directives. ULTRAMAX SC 400, a cartridge with total waterproof sealing, compatible with high temperatures. The magnesium oxide in the core of all high-power density cartridge heaters is an excellent electrical insulator and a good heat conductor. However, it has a high hygroscopic characteristic, therefore heaters that are not “turned on” and are in a humid environment tend to lower their level of insulation, which sometimes can cause safety devices to intervene at start-up. In the worst cases the heaters might get irreversibly damaged by short circuit. If the temperature of the heater’s head does not exceed 260°C, the head sealing can be made in resins or silicone, but for higher temperatures or higher safety ratios, other solutions are required. Rotfil found and patented the solution to this problem: SC 400 is a totally watertight sealant, irreversible, resistant to high pressures and continuous high temperatures of up to 400 °C. It does not change its structure or characteristics in the years, it is resistant to water, acids, air pollution, and does not char. SC 400 is an inorganic compound that is fused into the heater’s head in a controlled-cycle process, thus forming a cohesive seal adherent to the metal surfaces at molecular level. It totally protects all internal components from pollution and oxidation, increasing the life of the heater. The use of ULTRAMAX SC 400 cartridges is indispensable every time you need a high safety level and high reliability. Intensive Heat-Cool-Combinations are mainly used in extrusion (e.g. tube extrusion, hose extrusion, fabrication of profiles and foils). The injection moulding of fibreglass filled polymers is also an interesting application. HIM Intensive Heat-Cool-System with mineral insulated Band Heater(s) and aluminium profiled cooling system works in diameters from 100 mm with operating temperatures up to a maximum of 450°C. An economic cooling system due to the usage of standard parts. Five basic are to combine various after application in numbers and arrangement. Pre assembled halves provide easy handling. Both halves cover most of the extrusion barrel. This provides a homogeneous heat distribution and therefore improves temperature control which results in improved quality of the extrued products. The special geometry of the elements with the cooling ribs and structured surface enlarges the radiation surface. This is suitable for applications with plastics requiring high shear (frictional heat) and at the back zones where high pressure and simulataneous temperature increase occurs. The HIM is recommended for fast product changes and simulataneous temperature change. Melt throughput is increased. A homogenous temperature control is provided which is an advantage when used with temperature sensitive plastics.
