An economical range of compact, 8mm diameter, laser diode modules for integration into systems and handheld instrumentation where space is at a premium. Typical applications are targeting, industrial alignment such as pre-press plate alignment, laser alignment for label and wrapper cutting machinery and medical alignment applications such as patient positioning. The laser modules measure just 25.5mm in length, with a diameter of only 8mm and are extremely efficient and reliable at an economical price. The 650nm laser diode modules produce an elliptical, collimated output beam of 3.5 x 1.5mm, with output powers of 0.9mW or 4.5mW. The 635nm laser diode modules produce an elliptical, collimated output beam of 3.5 x 1.5mm, with output powers of 0.9mW or 4.0mW. Operating voltage is from 3V to 6V DC at an operating current of 30mA typ, (0.9mW) or 40mA typ, (4.5mW). Beam divergence is less than 1mrad and operating temperature range is -10 degrees Centigrade to +50 degrees Centigrade at 650nm and -10 degrees Centigrade to +40 degrees Centigrade at 635nm. The laser modules consist of a brass housing, laser diode, drive circuit and adjustable collimating or focusing lens. The lens may be adjusted to produce either a collimated beam or focused spot. Krypton arc lamps are typically operated in a continuous wave (CW) mode and discharge a constant current in the 10-50 Amp range between 100-250 Volts. The continuous light radiated induces constant gain in the Nd:YAG rod, generating a continuous laser beam. Krypton gas is almost always selected for CW applications because it has the advantage of specific line radiation which better matches the absorption peaks of Nd:YAG at the relatively low current densities employed in these lamp types. Unlike the flashlamp products, arc lamps are filled to relatively high pressures (5-10 atmospheres) to increase the conversion of electrical energy to radiant output. As a result, the system designer is often challenged to deliver the necessarily high breakdown voltages that are needed to ionize the gas. In addition to the constant current mode of operation, krypton arc lamps may also be operated in a quasi-continuous mode whereby the current is sinusoidal in nature and a modulated continuous mode whereby the current is switched back and forth between a relatively low and high current. >>>

The FSL 500 consists of a common control unit and interchangeable laser heads. The control unit contains the power supply, an internal pulse rate generator and a driver stage that allows to control the duration of the laser pulse regardless of the selected amplitude. In the internal mode the driver operates at a base frequency of 12 MHz, which is manually dividable by 2 and 4, and provides an adjustable laser-on duration up to 100 ns. In the slope triggered mode the laser pulse is fired by the falling edge of an external electrical input signal.
