SOLID METAL RUPTURE DISK (BURSTING DISC) TYPE B

SOLID METAL RUPTURE DISK (BURSTING DISC) TYPE B

Solid Metal Rupture Disk (Bursting Disc) Select from the following topics: Benefits How a Tension-Loaded Disk Works Standard Manufacturing Ranges Rupture Tolerance Specifications Holder Requirement Linings Type BV Disks for Vacuum Type BR Disks for Low Burst Pressures Use in Elevated or Cold Temperature Service Safety Heads for Type B Disks Benefits The vents may be supplied with the following: Electrical sensor to warn of open vent Locking enclosure Sealed enclosure for corrosive environments Activated reclosing How a Tension Loaded Disk Works As the pressure increases on the tension-loaded disk, the seating design allows the dome to thin out until it can no longer withstand the pressure. The disk ruptures. Metal segments fold back against the walls of the fitting in an irregular pattern to provide a full opening. The ultimate tensile strength of the metal determines its failure point when loaded in tension. Standard Manufacturing Ranges When you order a rupture disk (bursting disc), a manufacturing range is automatically assigned to the burst pressure you specify. The following table gives the standard manufacturing ranges. A manufacturing range eliminates the necessity for the manufacturer to stock all possible thicknesses of all materials, nearly 100,000 thicknesses in all, to make all burst pressures. For example, if you order a B Disk to burst at 80 psig, BS&B will enter the order to the shop with the standard manufacturing range (+9,-5), or 75 to 89 psig. BS&B will try for your requested pressure of 80 psig, but will ship the lot of disks if the marked pressure falls between 75 to 89 psig. Once the disk is rated and marked 78 psig, the burst tolerance of ±5% now applies to this stamped pressure. The standard manufacturing ranges shown in the following table can be reduced by 1/2 or 1/4 for an additional cost. Hastelloy C-276 / Alloy C-276 is available only with standard manufacturing range and 1/2 range. Standard Manufacturing Ranges for Solid Metal Disks Before the Disk is Stamped Rupture Tolerances Burst tolerances are the maximum expected variation from the disk's marked burst pressure. Normal Rupture Tolerances for Type B series Solid Metal Disks: Marked Rupture Pressure (psig) Expected Rupture Tolerance From >2 to >>>

REVERSE BUCKLING DISKS - SKR-U REVERSE BUCKLING DISK

REVERSE BUCKLING DISKS - SKR-U REVERSE BUCKLING DISK

SKR-U Reverse Buckling Disk Introduction The SKR-U™ rupture disk (bursting disc) is partnered with the UR-2 safety head to provide high integrity reverse buckling rupture disk (bursting disc) technology in a threaded union type holder. The SKR-U™ rupture disk (bursting disc) uses Saf™ technology (structural apex forming) to accurately control its burst pressure making it insensitive to the assembly torque variations that will occur in a threaded type holder. The UR-2 safety head is available in three standard nominal sizes: 1/2 " / 15mm,3/4_" / 20mm, and 1" / 25mm. Standard inlet & outlet female threads are 1/2 ", 3/4 ", and 1" NPT. Custom thread configurations are available. The SKR-U™ rupture disks (bursting discs) are identified SKR-U™1/2" / 15mm, SKR-U™3/4" / 20mm, SKR-U™ 1" / 25mm and are all supplied with permanently attached 3-D metal identification tags. Note: The SKR-U™ is a 2-part rupture disk (bursting disc) comprising a calibrated metal dome that faces into and responds to a source of overpressure, and a stainless steel hinge ring permanently fitted to the downstream side of the disk that works together with the safety head to retain the disk petal after opening. These pressures are applicable to all sizes of SKR-U™ rupture disk (bursting disc). Standard safety head materials are carbon steel & stainless steel. Temperature The design temperature for the UR-2 Union safety head is 700 deg F / 371 deg C. All of the standard holder and rupture disk (bursting disc) materials are available up to this limit except for Titanium & Tantalum. Titanium is limited to 572 deg F / 300 deg C, and Tantalum is limited to 500 deg F / 260 deg C. Thread Connection Options While the standard thread connections are _", _" and 1" NPT female inlet & outlet, the following alternatives are available within the same overall dimensions. Burst Pressure Tolerances BS&B applies both a burst tolerance and a manufacturing design range to the SKR-U™ rupture disk (bursting disc). Whether North American ASME, European Pressure Equipment Directive or ISO standards are followed, the approach is the same. Burst tolerance is the +/- range of pressure over which a rupture disk (bursting disc) can be expected to burst. Manufacturing design range is a range of pressure, always applied to the minus side of the user requested burst pressure for the SKR-U™, that simplifies disk fabrication testing and provides economic benefit to the user where such an added tolerance can be accommodated by the application. Burst tolerance is either +/-5% of burst pressure or +/-2psi / +/-0.138 bar for disks rated below 40 psi/2.76 bar. MDR and burst tolerance are additive. In the European PED & ISO cases, the burst tolerance and MDR are combined. In the ASME case, the ‘marked burst pressure’ must be a value within the agreed manufacturing design range & then the burst tolerance is applied. Safety Head Design – Rupture Disk (Bursting Disc) Installation The UR-2 safety head contains 4 metal components: inlet, holdown ring, outlet, and hexagon assembly nut. The SKR-U™ rupture disk (bursting disc) is pre-assembled to the safety head between the inlet and the holdown ring using two capscrews. This locates and centers the disk, ensuring the correct direction of installation: these two capscrews and a single locating pin in the UR-2 inlet have an asymmetric layout that matches three holes in the SKR-U™ disk flange. This pre-assembly feature ensures that the disk can be easily installed even where the piping flow path may not be ‘vertical up’. The inlet/disk/holdown subassembly is fixed to the UR-2 threaded outlet by a hexagon nut. It is the hexagon nut that provides the sealing load to the safety head assembly (the capscrews are for preassembly only). As an option, the UR-2 safety head can be provided with a threaded connection on the outlet side to enable the connection of a ‘tell-tale’ assembly. >>>

The LPS Rupture Disk (Bursting Disc), combined with the SRB-7RS® Safety Head, provides accuracy and reliability. The LPS uses SAF™ technology (Structural Apex Forming™) enabling very low burst pressures to be achieved with excellent opening characteristics. LPS Rupture Disk (Bursting Disc) Material Options The LPS Rupture Disk (Bursting Disc) is available in a range of corrosion resistant materials (see table on opposite page for details). Standard disk materials are Nickel alloy 200, Stainless Steel grade 316, Inconel® (Nickel alloy 600), Monel® (Nickel alloy 400), Hastelloy® C-276, & Tantalum. The LPS disk includes an outlet side hinge to control fragmentation. Standard disk hinge material is Stainless Steel grade 316 with alternates available upon request. Tef liners are offered with the type LPS Rupture Disk (Bursting Disc) at burst pressures of 35 psig (2.4 barg) and higher. Flow Performance/KR Values/Rupture Disk (Bursting Disc) Sizing Flow resistance factor, KR, may be used to determine the relieving capacity of a system when using techniques such as those described in Crane Technical Paper No. 410. Individual KR values have been established for both gas & liquid service for the LPS disk. These are experimentally determined at the BS&B Safety Systems, L.L.C. flow laboratory following ASME procedures and witnessed by ASME representatives. Care must be taken to use the correct value for sizing purposes. When KR values are marked on the LPS disk tag, those for gas service are shown as KRg, and those for liquid service are shown as KRl. When using KR value for sizing calculations, the nominal pipe size (assuming schedule 40 pipe), of the vent system is used. When using coefficient of discharge sizing techniques, the Minimum Net Flow Area or Net Relief Area of the rupture disk (bursting disc) device is used. MNFA is expressed in square inches to facilitate sizing calculations in line with ASME practices. NRA is expressed in square centimeters for use when sizing in line with ISO, European Standards and forthcoming CEN practices. Operating Pressure Ratio (Maximum Operating Pressure) LPS Reverse Buckling Disks can be operated to 90% of their minimum burst pressure. In other words, to 90% of the marked burst pressure less the burst tolerance. Vacuum Resistance/Back Pressure Resistance The LPS disk will resist vacuum without the need for an additional vacuum support. Back pressure resistance is limited to 15 psig (1.03 barg) for disks rated to burst at 15 psig (1.03 barg) or less. For higher burst pressures, back pressure resistance is equal to the minimum burst pressure of the ordered LPS disk. Maximum Recommended Temperature Hastelloy is a trademark of Haynes International Inc., Monel and Inconel are trademarks of Inco Alloys International. Teflon® is a trademark of E.I. DuPont de Nemours & Co., Inc. BS&B may use equivalent materials from other sources. >>>

NU-SAF Rupture Disks Reliable overpressure relief is assured with components which cover a wide range of applications and service pressures. Features Benefits XN-Precision Scored Rupture Disk (Bursting Disc) LCN Low Pressure Rupture Disk (Bursting Disc) NX-7R Safety Head Ordering Information Features Sizes 1" to 8" (25 mm - 200 mm). Pressures 19 - 1450 psig (1.3 - 100 bar). 80% operating ratio. ± 5% Burst Tolerance. Flat Seal. Metal-to-Metal bite type seal. Tension loaded. Benefits Minimal fragmentation. Liquid and Gas service. Extended life. Reliable. Easy Installation. Leak-tight. Fail-safe. No vacuum support needed. The Nu-SafT System introduces a new concept that combines the benefits of advanced technology with the simplicity of a basic style. Reliable overpressure relief is assured with components which cover a wide range of applications and service pressures. Overpressure relief from 19 psig (1.3 bar) to 1450 psig (100 bar) is assured in a range of sizes from 1 inch (25 mm) to 8 inch (200 mm). The Nu-SafT System consists of an inlet and an outlet of the NX-7R Safety Head plus the XN or LCN Rupture Disk, depending on the pressure required. Refer to Figure 1. The XN Rupture Disk (Bursting Disc) incorporates precision scoring technology in a metal, tension loaded design. The precision scoring design minimizes the possibility of disk fragmentation. Operating pressure may be extended to 80% of the disk's burst rating without the risk of metal fatigue and subsequent reduction in normal service life. The new design exhibits no premature failure or fatigue cracks after extended pressure cycle testing from vacuum to 80% of the disk's burst rating. The XN Rupture Disk (Bursting Disc) design can withstand full vacuum without the need for a vacuum support. For the lower pressure ranges the LCN Rupture disk is available. This is a composite disk comprised of three parts: (1) A slotted metal top section is the pressure controlling element. (2) A Teflon®* seal isolates the top section from the process. (3) The slotted metal bottom section will withstand vacuum. The flat design minimizes the possibility of disk damage during installation. The simplicity of the NX-7R Safety Head design incorporates several features which allow easy installation. The Quick-Sert Safety Head with its reduced diameter fits inside the studs of two companion flanges. Asymmetric alignment pins in the Safety Head mate with location holes in the rupture disk (bursting disc), thus eliminating incorrect installation and slippage. The flat set design in combination with a metal-to-metal "bite-type" seal provides a leak-tight system. The NX-7R Safety Head and rupture disk (bursting disc) are easily pre-assembled with side lugs. *Teflon is a registered trademark of Dupont. XN Precision Scored Rupture Disk (Bursting Disc) Solid Metal Precision Scored Minimal fragmentation Can withstand vacuum without support Operates up to 80% of the disk's rated pressure. (Consult factory for tighter operating ratio and manufacturing ranges.) Liquid and gas service (acceptable for liquid service with compressible gas pocket between liquid and disk.) Disks damaged or installed incorrectly will burst at rated pressure or lower. Can be used in pressure cycling conditions. Manufacturing Range A 5% manufacturing range is standard. Consult the factory for tighter operating ratio and manufacturing range. The total range is placed on the minus side of the requested nominal rating. Example: If an XN Rupute Disk is ordered for a 725 psig (50 bar) burst pressure and a 5% manufacturing range, it may be tagged at a pressure between 689 psig (47.5 bar) and 725 psig (50 bar). Tolerances: Burst tolerances are the maximum variation from the above tagged burst pressure.
