BUILDING & CIVIL ENGINEERING - STRUCTURAL WATERPROOFING

UNDERGROUND STRUCTURESConcrete is frequently used as a tanking material, or in situations where the structure is intended to be watertight. Under these circumstances, additional structural waterproofing measures are often required and Flexcrete has highly impermeable cementitious coatings to meet both needs. What is more, products are available for use with drinking water as well as where aggressive chemicals are present.Protection against Water Infiltration Protection against water infiltration from the negative side is becoming increasingly important as rising water-tables around the world call for improved tanking for basements and underground structures such as tunnels. In many cases, structures were built with no provision for such an eventuality, and post-construction underground structural waterproofing is normally very complex and expensive. >>>

BUILDING & CIVIL ENGINEERING STRUCTURES - HERITAGE

BUILDING & CIVIL ENGINEERING STRUCTURES - HERITAGE

Concrete RestorationOver the past decade, there has been a growing awareness in the UK of the importance of preserving our heritage. This has led to an increasing number of reinforced concrete structures, as well as the more traditional forms of construction, obtaining listed status from English Heritage.Waterloo PavillionIn turn, this has caused more structures to fall within the jurisdiction of the heritage sector where the type of permitted repairs is often very limited. There will, for example, often be a stipulation that repairs have to match the appearance of the rest of the structure in terms of colour, texture and finish.Flexcrete’s range of hand applied mortars exhibit unique high build properties and can be easily moulded and sculptured to replicate the original texture and form, ideal for concrete restoration. Some of the mortars are also available in white and grey shades, enabling pigmentation on site to achieve a close colour match. >>>

FINISHINGWith the current emphasis on concrete as an aesthetic finish in its own right, it is no longer acceptable to leave behind visible blow holes and surface defects when formwork has been removed. The exciting, complex designs we are now able to produce can create their own problems with compaction, producing honeycombing; whilst inadequate formwork support may result in grout loss and unsightly blemishes. Even the removal of formwork often damages edges, arises and fine detail work. All of these defects require reinstating prior to completion with materials that are visually and structurally compatible.Flexcrete has a range of materials to suit all applications, whether it be a structural mortar for reinstating large areas of honeycombing right through to colour-matched, fine grade mortars to produce the finest fair faced finish. >>>

BUILDING & CIVIL ENGINEERING STRUCTURES - REFURBISHMENT

BUILDING & CIVIL ENGINEERING STRUCTURES - REFURBISHMENT

If modern reinforced concrete structures had proved to be as durable and resistant as was once anticipated, there would be no need for further work to ensure their full design life could be achieved. Unfortunately, this is far from the case, and a programme of maintenance, often expensive if the right materials are not selected, must be undertaken to ensure they remain serviceable and above all, safe. These structures are all around us and play an important part in our everyday lives: from the buildings where we live, work and are educated, to the infrastructure networks providing utilities and transportation. >>>

COASTAL ENGINEERING - RC STRUCTURES

COASTAL ENGINEERING - RC STRUCTURES

Flexcrete’s range of purpose designed marine mortars, sprayed mortars and unique cementitious coatings are based on the Company’s own highly advanced microsilica, polymer and fibre technology. This affords optimum application and performance in wet, chloride-laden environments and offers excellent resistance to wash-out.Flexcrete marine products can be installed between tides to damp substrates and will cure under water to form a resilient, durable finish that resists abrasion and chloride ion diffusion. All Flexcrete products are manufactured with sustainable development in mind and the Company is committed to providing environmentally aware solutions. >>>

COASTAL ENGINEERING - STEEL STRUCTURES

COASTAL ENGINEERING - STEEL STRUCTURES

The hostile salt-laden coastal environment poses a greater risk of corrosion to steel and the many challenges surrounding the application of a coating system are exacerbated when working in tidal zones. Traditional resin coatings used to protect steel structures require high levels of surface preparation including removal of all contaminants and corrosion by-products back to bright metal, and the absence of residual chlorides and surface moisture. This generally cannot be achieved during a tidal window necessitating the use of costly temporary coffer or limpet dams, and even then space restrictions inside these refuges and the more hostile environmental conditions around the coast make it a less than ideal solution, and premature failure can be a consequence. >>>
