CAPILLARY REACTOR

CAPILLARY REACTOR

In order to perform small-scale continuous reactions under definite conditions, delay loops are required which have a predetermined reaction volume to ensure a predetermined residence time and can be operated at a defined temperature. A simple setup to meet these requirements is a capillary inserted in a heat transfer fluid. However, the geometrical configuration of the capillary may strongly influence the width of the residence time distribution which should be as small as possible to achieve favorable values of yield and selectivity. The capillary microreactor module consists of a stainless steel capillary multiply coiled in an 8-shaped geometry. The temperature is set by means of two electrically heatable cartridges inserted into the two regions enclosed by the coil. In order to control the reaction temperature, Pt 100 temperature sensors are embodied in the heatable cartridges and attached to the capillary. The 8-shaped configuration in connection with the strong curvature of the coil, which leads to additional secondary flows, results in a favorably narrow residence time distribution. The total volume of the heated capillary is usually 4 mL which corresponds to a residence time adjustable between 0.1 to 20 minutes when regarding a throughput range of 0.2 to 50 mL/min characteristic for a standard HPLC pump. The capillary can be replaced by a corresponding spare part or capillaries made from other materials can be inserted when appropriate for special reactions. >>>

UTR200 - POWERFUL ULTRASONIC REACTOR FOR IN-LINE USE

UTR200 - POWERFUL ULTRASONIC REACTOR FOR IN-LINE USE

The sonoreactor UTR200 (200 watts, 24kHz) works as an ultrasonic bath but at a 50 times higher intensity. Its characteristics in terms of quality are the same as those of the other Hielscher ultrasonic processors, such as the UP200S . In addition, it is dry-running protected. It is suited for the direct or indirect sonication of liquids e.g. for cell disruption, homogenizing or emulsifying . The beaker-shaped sonotrode is machined from one piece in order to prevent leakages. The upper part of the sonotrode is oscillation-free and can be used for mounting the respective accessories for diverse application cases. A corresponding reactor cover takes the Eppendorf tubes or test tubes for indirect sonication. For a more intense sonication of vials and test tubes for processes, such as dispersing, homogenizing and emulsifying, please take a look at our VialTweeter. By means of the reactor cover the chamber is hermetically sealed. If the cover has an additional inlet and outlet the sonoreactor can be used as a flow system. A sieving extension with a bajonet lock takes a pile of sieves for fine grain sizes (diameter 75mm, finest mesh size 5 micron). The ultrasound, which is transmitted to the sieves, accelerates the wet sieving process. Besides the application combination with various accessories, the UTR200 is a powerful alternative to common ultrasonic baths. ORGANIC WASTE SYSTEMS

ORGANIC WASTE SYSTEMS

Organic waste, or Bio-waste is an important topic in today’s environmentally conscious world. Bio-waste has an energy value that may be recovered. This is obviously more beneficial to the environment than many other methods of disposal such as land-fill Organic waste systems may be either pneumatic, where the waste is transported to the slurry container, or self-contained where the waste is deposited directly into a unit housed within a standard road container The waste is never exposed to the air after it has been loaded resulting in better hygiene, reduced smell, reduced rodent nuisance and, since waste is reduced in volume and can be held for up to 3 weeks between collections, potentially reduced collection cost The Environmental objective is to install more bio-waste handling plants. As this objective is realised, bio-waste will increasingly be perceived as having an energy value that can be recovered. >>>

MACOR® GLASS CERAMIC

MACOR® GLASS CERAMIC

For many years Macor® glass ceramic, made by Corning, has been almost a standard material when ceramic-like properties are required for short run components required on quick turnaround. We say 'Ceramic-like' because Macor is neither a glass nor a ceramic, but has properties similar to each family of materials, being an electrical and thermal insulator, a material which is good at high temperature and in corrosive environments, being of relatively low density, and being brittle rather than ductile. >>>

CRYOREACTOR

CRYOREACTOR

The CryoReactor was originally developed to perform continuous small-scale organometallic reactions at low temperatures. The essential prerequisites were precooling of the reactants, mixing at low temperature and chemical transformation in a cooled delay loop ensuring a definite residence time. In order to meet these requirements, a system was designed comprising two capillary-type heat exchangers, a multilamination micromixer and a reaction capillary which are placed together into an insulated steel vessel (“Dewar”) filled with a cryogenic agent. Accordingly, the CryoReactor combines several functions and can be regarded as an integrated unit. The CryoReactor module satisfies completely the prerequisites of the Modular Microreaction System and can be combined with all other modules. Materials in contact with reactants are as usual stainless steel and perfluorinated elastomers and polymers, respectively. The module can easily be connected to the coolant circulation of an external cryostat unit and operated at temperatures down to -100 °C. With some minor modifications the module is similarly appropriate for hightemperature applications. It can be operated up to temperatures of +300 °C. >>>
