BARLATCH™ FAIRLEAD STOPPER

BARLATCH™ FAIRLEAD STOPPER

BarLatch™ Fairlead Stopper The BarLatch™ Fairlead Stopper is an innovative underwater swiveling fairlead and chain stopper developed specifically for floating production applications. It is designed to achieve the best possible chain wear characteristics for successful long term passive mooring. The principal components are an underwater Pivoting Chain Stopper and a Swiveling Chainwheel or Bending Shoe. It addresses the need to reduce chain wear, when the mooring line is rarely moved, by placing the integral chain stopper outboard of the fairlead. Depending on the application specific requirement, the BarLatch can be designed as an underwater or deck mounted device. This versatility allows the Bardex engineers to optimize the Mooring System design to suit the customer's exact needs. When the stopper's latches are engaged, the high line tension is removed from the chain in the vertical leg and around the underwater bending shoe. This produces superior chain life, compared to conventional chainwheels or bending shoe type fairleads. Patented Worldwide Product Advantages The BarLatch Fairlead Stopper, compared to conventional mooring systems, has the following advantages: Greatly reduces the relative motion between the last link contacting the fairlead (restrained from moving) and the link exiting the fairlead By latching the links outboard of the fairlead, it eliminates chain wear due to twisting of links in the vertical leg of the mooring line where links contact the chainwheel while under tension Minimizes link sliding interaction in a lateral direction resulting from platform yaw or weathervaining. Reduces main deck foundation costs by incorporating the chain stopper (rated at or beyond the chain break strength) with the underwater fairlead. >>>

FPSO MOORING AND TENSIONING SYSTEMS

FPSO MOORING AND TENSIONING SYSTEMS

FPSO Mooring and Tensioning Systems Factory testing of a compression style chain jack, capable of pulling in 375 tonnes. Many FPSO platforms rely on a Bardex Mooring and Tensioning System for their safe, efficient, and reliable mooring needs. The Bardex system utilizes our pioneering and field proven Linear Chain Jack Technology to provide the muscle necessary to tension even the largest of chain mooring lines. The Bardex system is significantly lighter and has a much smaller equipment footprint compared to a similar capacity system using chain windlasses. Because maximized deck space and weight reduction are critical factors in the design of today's FSPOs, the Bardex Linear Chain Jack Mooring System has become the industry standard. >>>

RESTRAINING & LEVELING SYSTEMS

RESTRAINING & LEVELING SYSTEMS

Restraining & Leveling Systems Bardex Restraint Systems for applications on offshore platforms are installed to stabilize and secure the drilling facilities during major seismic events or high wind loadings. These systems have been installed in seismically active areas such as Sakhalin Island, Russia, and the Caspian Sea. A typical Bardex Restraint System includes Vertical and Horizontal (loads transverse to skid direction) Restraints and a locked Gripper Jack Assembly (load in-line with skid direction). Bardex has supplied systems to withstand simultaneous seismic loadings exceeding 1500 tonnes in all three axes. The complete Bardex system includes a free standing control console and remote-mounted programmable logic controller. The Vertical Restraint shown here (See A / B) is installed by bolting to the rig footing. The hydraulic cylinder engages a wedge block between the underside of the skid flange and the Vertical Restraint side palte. Once the wedge is engaged the rig is restrained from moving in the vertical direction. The Horizontal Restraint (see C) is locked by engaging the wedge block between the backing structure on the footing and the edge of the skid beam flange. Once the wedge is engaged, the rig is restrained from moving in the trasverse direction (perpendicular to the direction of rig skidding). In both the Vertical and Horizontal Restraint, the wedges, once engaged do not require hydrualic pressure to remain locked. The Restraints are released by actuating the hydraulic cylinders. After the rig is skidded to the appropiate location, the Gripper Jack Assembly is used to restrain horizontal motion parallel to the direction of skidding. The Gripper JAck Assembly can be equipped with either an accumulator or a mechanical device to maintain Gripper clamping force after the hydraulic pressure is released at the control station. In some cases, due to sea floor subsidence or structual deflections, a rig leveling system is required. Leveling Cylinders (see D) are typically mounted at each drill floor / substructure foor or each skid base foot to level the drilling rig. Lifting capacities in excess of 1500 tonnes per foot have been provided by Bardex. An alternative is the Levelock Gripper jack. The complete Bardex system includes all controls to operate Skidding, Leveling and Restraining Systems in a safe and efficient manner. A range of controls from simple manual controls to PLC based systems can be provided based on the customer's requirements. >>>

RISER CENTRALIZER SYSTEMS

RISER CENTRALIZER SYSTEMS

Today's ultra-deepwater dynamically positioned ships face numerous operational challenges, not the least of which is to weather a surprise storm, capture and center the disconnected marine riser, and provide guidance to the BOP as it passes through the wave zone. For example, if the weather changes and suddenly becomes so severe that it becomes difficult to achieve vessel station keeping, provisions must be made to protect the well and the drilling equipment. This is provided for by disconnecting the riser at the vessel, thus removing the flex joint restriction. The risers can then be protected by the Bardex Riser Centralizer System which retains the riser securely in the middle of the moonpool, yet allows the vessel to take excursion from the well's center position. The riser can then be quickly reconnected once the storm has left allowing drilling to recommence without significant delays. >>>

The Bardex system utilizes our pioneering and field proven Linear Chain Jack Technology to provide the muscle necessary to tension even the largest of chain mooring lines. Bardex Linear Chain Jacks with accompanying Turndown Sheaves on station and ready to tension the mooring lines. Chain Windlasses of similar pulling capacity would occupy footprint areas multiple times greater, and weigh significantly more than the Bardex Linear Chain Jacks and Turndown Sheaves pictured above. The Bardex system is significantly lighter and has a much smaller equipment footprint compared to a similar capacity system using chain windlasses. Because maximized deck space and weight reduction are critical factors in the design of today's SPARs, the Bardex Linear Chain Jack Mooring System has become the industry standard. >>>
